TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS Gordon, con’t from page 1 being a beacon of light during diffi cult times and celebrating each step people take toward a life of recovery. Sandy will be missed by more people than we can know. Her footprints will be seen in the community for many years to come. Sandy’s reaction to receiving the award was, “I feel very honored to have worked for the tribe for the past I I years. I'm really going to miss my cli ents and my co-workers.” Other Awards Employee of the Third Quarter Award went to Pam Ben, bookkeeper I. Currently, he focuses much of his time on lan guage instruction, teaching basket weaving, making of regalia and tradi tional foods gathering and preparation. Lane has spent 30 years learning the Athabaskan language and is rec ognized as one of the Tribe’s most flu ent speakers. Teaching language classes is just one of his priorities, he also has produced language CDs, DVDs and an Athabaskan dictionary. Lane’s basketry is showcased as part of the collections at the Hallie Ford Museum at Willamette University and the University of Oregon, and he has served as a master artist with the Or egon Historical Society’s Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program. Lane is providing guidance for an exhibit titled “The Art of Ceremony: Regalia of Native Oregon” that will be hosted by the Hallie Ford Museum in 2008. He is a member of Willamette University's Native American Advisory Council. Lane has served on the Siletz Tribal Council since 2004 and is currently serving as the Vice Chairman. He was on council from 1984 through 1990 as well.
