To reach out to the community, the Planning Department is sponsoring four meetings in January, one each in Siletz and the area offices of Portland, Salem and Eugene. Many facilities and programs that tribal members enjoy have been funded through grants from various federal and state agencies. Naomi Shadwick, grant writer for the tribe, noted, “Grants and other funding opportunities are very effective at pro viding facilities and services to the Siletz Tribe. We'd really like to hear from tribal members regarding what they see as unmet needs for tribal members and how those needs should be addressed.” “We want these to be fun events, too,” commented Pam Lind, tribal plan ner, “so we’ll be providing a light meal and hopefully this will allow folks to visit a little before we get down to business.” And this is important business, ac cording to Shadwick. “There are so many grant opportu nities that we could explore,” she noted. “But we need to hear from the Siletz Tribal community - what are your needs and how can they be met? That information is important for us to know what to be looking for, in terms of grant opportunities.” All tribal members are encouraged to attend one or more of the meetings, as able. Future alternative opportuni ties to participate will be provided to tribal members who are unable to at tend in person. The area office meeting schedule is as follows: • • • • Siletz, Jan. 10 Eugene, Jan. 17 Salem, Jan. 24 Portland. Jan. 31 Each meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. with the light meal and discussion will follow.
