TRIBAL MEMBER NEWS Ed Ben to Celebrate 80th Birthday James Gains Job at PCC after Participating in Tribal Youth Employment Program Friends and family are invited to an 80,h birthday reception for Ed Ben on Nov. 18, 2007. The event will be held at the Ashley Inn in Lincoln City, Ore., from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. At Ed’s request, no gifts, please. Born on Christmas day, he usually gets to spend his birthday under a Christmas tree, so this year we are hav ing a special day just for his birthday. by Katy Kaady Ed Ben _ . ’____________ ■— V i -V. wr* —¿sax. Rilatos, Mason Marry at Dance House Congratulations to Tasha Rilatos and Justin Mason, who were married Sept. 22, 2007, at the Dance House in Siletz. Tasha is the daughter of Rollie Rilatos and Correnna Armstrong. Justin is the son of Karl and Judy Payne. Tasha and Justin live in Newport. Tasha works at the Tenas lllahee Child Care Center in Siletz and Justin is a patient accounts representative at the Siletz Community Health Clinic. Brandon James, grandson of Connie and Ron James and son of Troy James, has had to over come difficult problems in his young life, including the major difficulty of hav ing severe juvenile rheu matoid arthritis at a very young age. This has not stopped him, though, from reaching toward his goals in life. This last summer, Brandon applied to the tribe's Summer Youth Em ployment and Education Work Experience Program, seeking a temporary job to gain work experience while he contin ued to attend Portland Community College's Youth Empowered to Succeed Program, working towards his GED. With help from his PCC counselor, John Mathews, the Siletz Summer Youth Program was able to place Brandon at PCC’s Southeast Café, where he would gain skills in the food industry, cash register experience and customer ser vice skills as well as earn money for himself. Toward the end of this summer pro gram, Mary Larson, Brandon’s super visor, was so impressed with the qual ity of his work she paved the way for Brandon to move on to a bigger cam pus cafeteria center at PCC’s Cascade Center with more responsibility. Connie James and her grandson, Brandon James We would like to recognize Bran don for doing such an excellent job, for the responsibility he has taken to ward his work and his education. He recently completed two of his GED tests and has only three more to complete. Brandon continues to attend PCC to finish his GED. works and enjoys time with his family and friends. Once he completes his GED. he plans to at tend PCC as a college freshman and work toward an associate's degree. We at the Portland area office would like to recognize Brandon for the work he has done and the fine young man he is. Mixed League Champions - Again! It was another great season for the team sponsored by Michael's Construc tion, losing only one game in the regu lar season and then going undefeated in the season-ending tournament.
