Brandon
James,
grandson of Connie and
Ron James and son of Troy
James, has had to over
come difficult problems in
his young life, including
the major difficulty of hav
ing severe juvenile rheu
matoid arthritis at a very
young age. This has not
stopped him, though,
from reaching toward his
goals in life.
This last summer,
Brandon applied to the
tribe's Summer Youth Em
ployment and Education
Work Experience Program,
seeking a temporary job to
gain work experience while he contin
ued to attend Portland Community
College's Youth Empowered to Succeed
Program, working towards his GED.
With help from his PCC counselor,
John Mathews, the Siletz Summer Youth
Program was able to place Brandon at
PCC’s Southeast Café, where he would
gain skills in the food industry, cash
register experience and customer ser
vice skills as well as earn money for
himself.
Toward the end of this summer pro
gram, Mary Larson, Brandon’s super
visor, was so impressed with the qual
ity of his work she paved the way for
Brandon to move on to a bigger cam
pus cafeteria center at PCC’s Cascade
Center with more responsibility.
Connie James and her grandson,
Brandon James
We would like to recognize Bran
don for doing such an excellent job,
for the responsibility he has taken to
ward his work and his education. He
recently completed two of his GED tests
and has only three more to complete.
Brandon continues to attend PCC
to finish his GED. works and enjoys
time with his family and friends. Once
he completes his GED. he plans to at
tend PCC as a college freshman and
work toward an associate's degree.
We at the Portland area office
would like to recognize Brandon for
the work he has done and the fine
young man he is.
