An awards banquet, workshops, special speakers, remodeling of an elementary school and meeting with other colleges took place during this four-day event. Haskell Indian Nations University was a candidate for a Chapter Excel lence Award. To obtain this award in your state to make it to nationals you have to prove the areas of political ac tion, community outreach, membership growth and professional development. NEA sponsored a group from Haskell Indian Nations University to attend - School of Education Dean, Dr. Russell Blackbird; two School of Edu cation juniors, Misty Hammer and Krysten Rhodes; and myself (presi dent, Kansas National Education As sociation Student Program Haskell Chapter 2007-08, and School of Edu cation senior). Thank you to NEA and Anthony Daniels, NEA Student Program presi dent, for making this possible. All NEA college student participants and the NEA retired group remodeled an elementary school in Philadelphia. This school had no grass on its entire Tiffany Wisdom property. Students were playing on a concrete playground. More than 300 volunteers helped to lay grass and sod, paint inside the school, drywall inside, organize books and supplies, and clean rooms. I put together bulletin boards in hallways and classrooms during the day and painted the doorways. If you would like to start your local chapter of the NEA Student Program, please contact me al tiffany.wisdom@yahoo.com. May God bless all students as they start the 2007 school year.
