CHINOOK WINDS CASINO RESORT Laughter and Culture Go Hand in Hand at Oregon Indian Week Show On May 19, a free concert in trib ute to Oregon's American Indians will be held at 7 p.m. in the Chinook Winds showroom. Comedy duo Williams & Ree will open the show, followed by the American Indian Dance Theatre. Laughter plays a huge part in American Indian culture and who bet ter to make us laugh at ourselves and each other than the comedy team of Williams & Ree, also known as “The Indian and The White Guy.” Williams & Ree have been per forming together for nearly 30 years. During that time, they have shared stages with such superstars as Garth Brooks, The Oak Ridge Boys, Charlie Daniels, and Randy Travis. They have worked as regulars on Hee Haw, appeared as regular guest stars on Country Kitehen with Florence Henderson, hosted LAFF TV with WIL LIAMS & REE, and co-hosted The Charlie Daniels Talent Roundup. Their show is a lively, fast-paced mixture of comedy bits, social/political commentary, and racial zings entwined with original songs. Not limited to com edy, Williams & Ree were nominated for Best Vocal Duo by the Country Mu sic Association in 1995. A Celebration of Native American Culture will be danced by the Ameri can Indian Dance Theatre, whose mem bers are among the finest American Indian dancers in the world. The 16-18 dancers, singers, and musicians have played to acclaim in virtually every state of the Union and have toured to theatres and festivals in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and Australia, often with the support of the U.S. State Department. The company has taped two tele vision specials for the PBS Great Per formances series, one of which was nominated for an Emmy Award. Its multi week engagements at the Joyce Theatre in New York City have regularly played to enthusiastic, sellout audiences. The troupe has danced in more than 50 cities from Hawaii to California to Illinois to New York, including a week- long engagement for the Kennedy Center's Youth and Family Program Division and a three-week tour of the Northwest. May 2007 Gregg Allman to Perform Famous Hits of Nearly Four Decades Rock-‘n’-Roll Hall of Famer Gregg Allman will be live in concert at Chi nook Winds on May 25-26. Hits like / m No Angel, Faces Without Names, and Melissa bring back the legendary sounds of good old rock-‘n’-roll. Gregg is both a found ing member of one of the biggest and most important American bands ever, the Allman Brothers Band, and a critically acclaimed solo talent who currently records and tours the country. At the start, Gregg and his brother, Duane, put to- Gregg Allman gether a number of differ- ent groups, including their first professional ones, The Allman Joys and The Hour Glass. Gregg’s powerful lead vocals, emerging songwriting, and keyboard prowess perfectly comple mented Duane’s now legendary guitar virtuosity. In 1969, their brotherhood made history with the formation of the massively influential act that both kick-started the entire genre of Southern rock and de fined an era of '70s rock-‘n’-roll with its freewheeling yet musically masterful sound. The Allman Brothers Band. The band suffered the untimely passing of Duane Allman and the next year of bassist Berry Oakley. Despite the losses, Gregg dedicated himself to keeping The Allman Brothers tradition alive and the band remains a musical powerhouse. In addition to Gregg, original members Butch Trucks and Jaimoe are still brothers in arms. Currently performing with Gregg are Floyd Miles, who introduced a young Gregg to R&B. soul, and the blues, on percussion; Neil Larson on keyboards; Robben Ford on guitar; Willie Weeks on bass; Steve Potts on drums; and the horn section of Jay Collins, Chris Karlic, and Jim Seeley. Get Your Fill of Laughs at Comedy on the Coast Comedy on the Coast hits Chinook Winds with side-stitching laughter May 18-19 with the comedic talents of Gerry Bednob, Jodi Borello, and Sam Kwasman. Gerry Bednoh not only has been a standup comedian for years, but also has been seen in such films as Death Becomes Her and Encino Man. and in guest-star appearances on TV shows like Seinfeld, The Wonder Years, and Mad About You. Joan Rivers said she thought she had heard it all until she heard the ef fervescent Bednob. Jodi Borello^s comedy material is featured alongside the best female co medians in the bestselling book She's so Funny and the recently published book Squeaky Clean Comedy. Born and raised in New Orleans, Borello’s comedy takes on a unique perspective from a one-of-a-kind en vironment - her family - as she relates in the following: “My daughter asks me, 'Mom. am 1 adopted?’ I said of course you're not adopted. We tried to adopt, they said we were unfit parents.” Gerry Bednob Sam Kwasman will emcee the evening and keep the crowd roaring. The voice of Donald Duck from 1970 to 1987 and many other voices since then. Kwasman also has been in major films such as Space Jam, Airplane, and Mame.
