LeAnn Rimes Shares Country Music and More in Concert LeAnn Rimes will perform numer ous hit singles June 23-24 at Chinook Winds Casino Resort. With her phe nomenal early success, Rimes has gone from being the little girl from Garland, Texas, with the big voice to a contemporary, cosmopolitan young woman. Possessing one of the most spec tacular voices in the business, as well as an incredible gift for performing, Rimes made her motion picture debut in 2000 in the film Coyote Ugly, stun ning audiences with a fresh look and sound that are reflective of her growth as a young adult. By age I I, Rimes had recorded her first album, AU That, which was re leased on a small, independent label. This accomplishment by such a young artist started talk throughout the coun try recording industry. Curb Records heard about the young prodigy and released Blue under her first major label recording deal. The album went multi-platinum and the title track became one of her signature songs. After the release of Blue, Rimes accomplished a feat never before achieved by a country artist - her al bum You Light Up My Life: Inspira tional Songs debuted simultaneously on three Billboard Magazine charts (pop. country, and contemporary Christian). Rimes' career has been more than just huge record sales. In 1997, she won two Grammys, including “Best New Artist." which marked the first time a country artist had captured that honor. 22 • Siletz News • Chad McCormick McCormick Joins Protégé Program Chad McCormick is one of three proteges to begin the Mentor/Protege Program with Chinook Winds Casino Resort and Golf Resort. Chad began the program in the Human Resources De partment at Chinook Winds Casino Resort on May I, 2006. He was born in Corvallis, Ore., to Jim and Robin McCormick. He lived in Inde pendence, Ore., until the fourth grade, when his family moved to Corvallis. Chad graduated from Crescent Val ley High School in 1997 and started col lege in the fall at Oregon State Univer sity. He graduated from OSU in June 2(X)2 with a BS in business administration. The Steering Committee is confi dent that with Chad’s education and drive, he will succeed as a protégé at Chinook Winds Casino Resort. Funnyman Don Rickles Hits the Stage at Chinook Winds She also won an American Music- Award. three Academy of Country Music awards, a TNN Music City News award. Billboard's special “Hot 100” award, and the CMA “Horizon Award." She also made her acting debut in the ABC movie Holiday hi Your Heart. Rimes’ most recent release. This Woman, has set her music apart from the standard country album. Some crit ics have claimed that she has lost sight of her country roots. Just the opposite is true. Rimes developed a curiosity early in life because her activities took her past the borders of old-time country. She never left country music at all; she just took it along with her. “Country music has always been my home base," said Rimes. “It always will be. But that doesn't mean I have to put limitations on it. It's so much fun to be free.” Show time is 8 p.m. Tickets range from $35 to $60. June 2006 Don Rickles will perform his unique style of comedy June 9-K) at Chinook Winds Casino Resort. As one of comedy's most famous funnymen, Rickles has been entertaining crowds since 1948. He has comically “insulted" the likes of Jackie Cooper, Danny Thomas. Bob Newhart, Lena Horne, Dean Martin, Ernest Borgnine, Don Adams, Ricardo Montalban, and Pat Boone, to name a few. His ad-lib style has followed him through the years and delighted audi ences along the way. A small step forward in Rickles' ca reer occurred in 1957 at a small Holly wood nightclub. One night. Frank Sinatra wandered in to see the then-unknown Rickles perform and became a part of the act while sitting in the audience. Sinatra doubled up laughing and became one of Rickles' biggest fans. Having Sinatra in his corner made Rickles the “in” comic among Holly wood stars, who started flocking to his nightclub acts to become the targets of his “insults.” In 1967, Rickles appeared on The Dean Martin Show. This was his first major appearance on a major prime time variety show and he scored a ma jor success. He was immediately asked back for a second appearance. Not knowing who Don Rickles he would be “insulting,” Rickles' ad-lib performance was talked about for weeks. His most memorable line was his remark to Bob Hope during the Vietnam War, when he snapped, “What’s Bob Hope doing here? Is the war over?” Lines like these are what has endeared him to audiences across the country. Show time is 8 p.m. Ticket prices range from $10 to $30.
