TRIBAL MEMBER NEWS New Babies! Ash Logan Blomstrom Ash Logan Blomstrom was born to Tony and Joella Blomstrom on Jan. 4, 2006, at 3:02 a.m. He weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces. Ash joins brother Kai. Grand parents are Bill and Darlene Gouge, Carol Blomstrom, and Allen and Melinda Wash. Great grandmother is Marie Chapman. Wynter Naayvshne Lynn Holt Nicole Huiler by Dad, Mom, Big Sis, and Big Bro Wynter - we feel so blessed to have you in our lives and to be able to watch you grow. We hope to fill your life with nothing but goodness. We love you so much. She was born on Dec. 26, 2005, at 1:46 a.m. She weighed 7 pounds and I ounce. Butler Earns Master’s Degree After six years of college, Nicole Buller has something to celebrate. She is a 1999 graduate of Reedsport High School and received her bachelor's of science degree in sociol ogy and ethnic studies from the Uni versity of Oregon in 2004. While at U of (), she also received a Diversity Building Scholarship (DBS). The DBS recognizes under graduate and graduate students who enhance the educational experience of all students by sharing diverse cultural experiences. Nicole then went on to pursue a teach ing degree. She earned her master's de gree in elementary education from the University of Oregon in 2005. During her graduate studies, she also was accepted as a member of the Sapsik’walâ (Teacher) Program. This pro gram is specifically designed for Ameri can Indian teachers. It provides training for American Indian students to become professional educators. Nicole currently is working in the University of Oregon’s Business Affairs office and looking for teaching positions in the Eugene and Springfield school dis tricts. She hopes to become a second- grade teacher where she can make a posi tive difference in the lives of today’s youth. Parents are Tristen John and Jessica Wieboldt. Her big sister is Trinity Lynn and big brother is Tristen David Shadow. Grandparents are Phil and Sherry Rilatos, Chris Wieboldt, Sherri Tollett, and Trish and Ken Wilson. Great-grandparents are Dave and Gladys Tollett, and Joyce Holt. Kathleen Van Pelt Forster and her husband, Richard Forsters Thank Siletz Kathleen Van Pelt Forster, an elder in Siletz, and her husband. Richard, moved to the reservation four months ago. Although raised in Waldport and Albany, they lived in Washington State for the last 40 years. For their twilight years, they decided to take on a last chal lenge and move to the Oregon coast. Kathleen, a Tututni (whose great grandmother, Amelia Shutenah Van Pelt, came to the reservation in the 1850s), has known and worked with the Top photo: Patsy Kessinger, Linda Belgarde, Donna Kessinger, Nicholle Kessinger, and Michell Kessinger hold the hahy boards. The project got started when Donna's grandson requested a baby board for his daughter. Her three sons and kinfolk also are members of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. Kathleen is a professional saxophone player who performed in several Port land big bands and currently is perform ing in the Yachats Big Band along with her husband, who is a professional vocalist. Besides introducing themselves to the reservation, they would like to ac knowledge the many kindnesses ex tended by neighbors, other elders, and the hard workers in the Housing De partment, pharmacy, and health clinic. “It is truly a genuine pleasure to be here and witness the friendliness ex hibited by people from passing cars, in the store, walking by saying ‘hi' and smil ing,” said the Forsters. “Thank you, Siletz, we enjoy and appreciate being here."
