LETTERS TO THE EDITOR To the editor: Just a word or two to let you know that I still want to be your Tribal Council representative. Our tribe still has not reached its goals and visions for the future. I can make a difference in some instances. 1 am not afraid to shoulder risk and responsibility, make decisions that will benefit our tribal members. We all have hopes and dreams that will betome fruitful. Those dreams can become true if your Tribal Council works together as a team. I can tell you that I am a good listener and a team player. I want to be on your winning team. Respectfully, your vote from the heart will make a difference. Frank D. Simmons To the editor: Dear tribal member, My name is Jessie Davis. At the Gen eral Council meeting on Nov. 5, I an nounced my candidacy to run for a posi tion on the 2006 Tribal Council. I am now asking for your support by casting your vote for me in the coming election. My decision to run for council is supported by my husband and family. If elected, I feel I am very capable of do ing the job! I feel I have a wealth of knowledge and experience that would be an asset to the tribe. I am a person of honesty, integ rity, and I am a team player. I know that each councilperson is only one vote, but I pledge to you that I will continue to be an advocate to all tribal members - el ders and youth. I will work together with the rest of the council to work for the bet terment of our tribe! To the editor: My name is George F. Siniscal and I’ll be running for a position on Tribal Council in the 2006 election. I feel that I’m a very qualified candidate for Tribal Council and that I can make a difference. I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself. I'll be 58 years old in December and I've been retired for six years from the law enforcement field. I’ve been involved with the tribe for the past 14 years, 13 years of them as chairman of the Natural Resources Committee. George F. I also believe that our Consent Decree is in dire need of modification and that has been one of my goals for the past 13 years. Our tribe has come a long way since our restoration, but there is always room for improvement. I would like to be a big I have over 24 years working for the State of Oregon - over 20 years in man agement. Besides being a negotiator and communicator, I am a good listener. I care about the needs of the tribal members. Whenever anyone has brought a problem to me, I have always tried to resolve the issue to the benefit of the people. I have goals that I would like to see accomplished that I will discuss further in the voter’s pamphlet. Although the tribe is doing well in many areas, I believe we still have many unmet needs. I would like to be a part of developing plans for these and the tribe’s continued success. Sincerely, Jessie Davis To the editor: My father, Leslie Gilbert Towner, deceased since 1974, had beautiful Indian regalia - old-time war bonnet, fully beaded vest, beaded gauntlets, elk-hide trousers, and moccasins. He always said that when he left, all this regalia would be mine. He wasn’t even in the ground yet and my sister went into his apartment and took all that regalia out. She sold it to a museum, on the east of Burns, Ore. I un derstand she took a trip to Israel with the money she got. At first, it really hurt me that she would do something like that. Then I was mad at her. I didn't speak or even look at her for nine years. Even though that regalia is very im portant to me and my family, I began to think that I should love my sister and put away my mad. My brother. Mike Wertin, myself, and my family went to her house for Thanksgiving and I forgave her. I'm glad that I did that because it wasn't long after that she left us. So that regalia is as important as ever. This Christmas, I will be 76 years old and I want that regalia back. important that we work together. Also as strong and the people who support it. Siletz must have a progressive and communicating Tribal Council that ad dresses the tribe’s priorities and goals at all times - to me that adds up to a 100 percent commitment of all Tribal Coun cil members. I have talked to the right people who are supposed to work on my behalf - several times. There always seems to be problems or that person just couldn't travel there and repatriate. I know there are Indian lawyers in the tribe. I am praying that at least someone of our people would have a sympathetic heart and want to help me. The museum is some 23 miles east of Burns.
