LETTERS TO THE EDITOR To the editor: We wanted to express our gratitude to the tribe for our down payment gift. We are so happy in our new home. It’s our first house ever and we love it! We had no idea we'd be able to get a house this soon or this nice, and we couldn’t have done it without the tribe’s help. Our cute little three-bedroom in a nice neighborhood is perfect for us. It truly is a blessing. Thank, you, Welo and Jennifer Watson To the editor: I would like to take this opportunity to thank Angela and whoever else was responsible for putting together the “el ders” bottom-fishing trip, which took place in Depoe Bay on the 5lh of August. I might add that I had a wonderful time and 1 believe everyone else did too. “It was a great day at sea.” Thank you again, Speaks out loud George F. Siniscal To the editor: I would like to say thank you to Cre ator for a wonderful bunch of youth put ting on their first basketball tournament on July 29-31. In a very short time, we formed a youth committee with six youth - Tasha Rilatos, Sam Lynch, Tristan “T-Man” Metcalf, Che Butler, Eddie Avila, and Mariah Garza. Siletz Tribal Youth Living Empowered held a meeting Aug. 9 to discuss further activities and introduce new youth to be involved. The committee held three meetings in July, the planning started July 1. The adults were Jenifer Metcalf, Selene Rilatos, Charlie Butler. Eddie Ehret, Laura Bremner, and Heather Hunt. Nick Sixkiller is totally awesome! He emceed the tournament. Thank you, Nick! Siletz Tribal Youth Prevention and our Empowered youth made this tournament possible. Thank you, Delina. The tournament went great; little mis haps here and there, yet it was a great success. I will not ever do the awards again - I’ll leave that for the youth (ha ha). Our future generation did a wonderful job. It was an honor to watch. Tasha and Sam with their great lead ership, these two magnificent women did a lot of hard work. I encourage all our youth to be involved. So many activities are out there for the youth, although none are put on by our youth. We need to be more youth-driven and this type of event allows them the opportunity to be the voice. There were many helpers at the tour nament. I would like to say thank you to Wazzy Case for helping me figure out the bracket when Charlie got tired of me, Lori Case for running the clock the whole weekend, and Apollonia Lane for doing the official book. You guys are great. Thank you Kiesha Metcalf and Zak Bremner for all your hard work in the con cession stand and all the other youth who helped in there. Chinook Winds, thank you for the donation with no hesitation. You stepped up and donated to our youth. Big thanks to Kent Strickler and Quanna Pigsley from Silez Gas & Mini- Mart for all the donations. You saved the day. SYAA, thank you for letting us use your clock and the concession stand. I really enjoyed all the kids at the tournament; they were so funny. Tasha and Sam, you did a wonderful job in this tournament and for this tour nament. You went above and beyond, you have great power. I hope you continue to utilize your ability to coordinate and organize. Thanks to Sage Butler and Tasha Rilatos for our logo. Yep, Sage, I bet you didn’t even know that. The last thank you I have is to our kids - thank you for be ing you! Holly John, would like to apolo gize for my actions the past couple of days. I realize that I have disgraced my tribe, community, family, and myself. I realize that I did sign a contract stat ing that I would not be under the influ ence of drugs or alcohol. I obviously made some wrong decisions at the wrong times that I am ashamed of. There is no amount of apologizing that 1 can give to make you understand how sincerely sorry I am. I personally would like to thank the community and tribal members for the support they have given to the royalty throughout the year and I hope that the community and tribal members will con tinue to support the royalty throughout the upcoming years.
