She and her husband. Jack, are both members of the Oregon National Guard. Janet is a career soldier. Jack, a Viet nam vet, re-enlisted in the military after 9/11. Jack was coming home on leave in November and returning to Camp Black horse, the U.S. compound located inside the Afghan Pol-e-charkhi military base in Afghanistan in December. Her unit was to follow in January, also to Afghanistan. Jack and Janet have grown children and are grandparents. Janet related to Teresa that the one place Jack definitely wanted to go on his leave was Chinook Winds Casino. Chinook Winds treated the Martins to a dinner for two in the Rogue River Restaurant, Williams & Ree concert tick ets, and assistance in finding accommo dations while in Lincoln City. They were introduced to the rest of the audience at the concert by Williams & Ree, and to Delores Pigsley, chairman of the Siletz Tribe. Following the concert, members of follow him on the first mile. See more photos on page 11. Chinook Winds sent T-shirts and hats with Jack for the men and women in his unit. Also among his gear was a Chinook Winds banner that he promised to proudly display on the hillsides of Afghanistan. During the first week in February, Teresa received an e-mail from Jack's unit along with a newsletter attached. She also received a note from Major Dean Perez, personnel officer for the 2nd Brigade Em bedded Training Team, establishing a contact for correspondence between the soldiers in Afghanistan and Lincoln City that continued throughout the year. A few days later, LTC David Enyeart. also a member of the 76lh Infantry Bri gade Combat Team, Task Force Phoenix at Camp Blackhorse, stopped by the Mar keting Department.
