TRIBAL MEMBER NEWS The Canary Sings, The Eagle Flies First row, toddlers: Douglas Bayya, Deanna Miller, Dennis Hines (Bostwick) Second row: Irene Dowd/Lawson, Lillian Lawson/Bayya, Matt Miller (center), Rosemary Lawson/Ricketts, Mae Lawson/Bostwick Third row: Bish Lawson, Samuel Bayya, Neva Lawson, Mary Lawson/ Miller, Harry Lawson, Earl Hines The Lawson Family by Shelley' M. Lawson/Dowd/Ricketts/UpChurch - Mom, Grandma, Cousin, Auntie, and Sister At this “per capita” time, I feel it’s important to share this picture with you, my family out there who are descendents of Bish Lawson and Irene Dowd. Please take a moment when you re ceive your monies to thank them and give them the honor and respect they deserve. They are the first two on the left in the picture above. Unfortunately, (Uncles) Sidney Lawson and Manuel Lawson are not in the picture because at that time, they were overseas fighting in the war. I know there are family members out there who do not have a face to put with the names of their “ancestors” and feel this is a good time to share this picture. Please remember when you get your “per capita” checks that these folks are the ones whose blood runs through our veins. And without them, we would not be here. I would give the money back tenfold if I could have them here with us today. I remember them well and the memo ries of their laughter and guidance live Howell Again Takes First in Race with me still. As a child, they helped to mold the person I am today. I miss them so. To my children and grandchildren, now you will have a picture of your ancestors for the rest of your lives. I am currently putting together a family tree and hope to be finished with it shortly. I will send you one when I have it completed. Wishing all of you love, respect, honor and a peaceful journey though life. Respectfully, Eva E. Clayton At the time of this tribal newsletter, culture camp will have come and gone. If ever an important event it’s culture camp! Young and young in spirit come together as one. One heart, one cultural soul. Our vivacious children, grandchil dren. With the vitality of a babbling brook, the voices to sing like canaries and the strength to fly like eagles need the support of family, community for the wind beneath their wings. Their magical heartbeat is rhythmic melody to our sacred drums. Precious treasures that bring a vast richness into our lives. With charismatic moonbeam smiles, a sprinkle of starlight, their sunshine penetrates the deepest hollows, leaving behind a residue of warmth and afterglow. We may speak of fortune, econom ics, but there is no greater wealth than that of our children. Wise wisdom looks to need. The silent rain speaks loudly, bring ing life to everything it touches. In our silence we must be careful not to smother the life of the child of direct descendency. We have children who are a breath away, one raindrop from acceptance. Our children venture out into life all too soon, into a throwaway world of im patience. Cobblestone alleys await. Fun damental endurance of self, pride, integ rity is a pretty good combination for our world travelers to tuck into their pockets. On the journey of old, common hearts, strength, self-preservation was a dream that all children might grow strong with the assurance of love and equality. Dedicated to our children who dance just outside our circles of fire, one sparkle away. Hibdon Ties the Knot by Larry, Vai, Lynette, and Heidi Congratulations, Gyrrad and Lissa Hibdon!
