The drum competitions included five places in each category. The 2005 South ern Drum Champion was Young Bird of Pawnee, Okla., and the 2005 Northern Drum Champion was Northern Cree of Hobbema, Alberta, Canada. One of the most enjoyable things for me was to watch the different dances, like the Kiowa Gourd Dancers (those who have done exceptional things in their lives), from the different tribes - first they show you and then you can join them on the floor if you want.
