NOTICES Charitable Fund Distributes More Than $94,000 The Siletz Tribal Charitable Contri bution Fund made another round of dis tributions May 13 and the seven-member advisory board has distributed more than $1.5 million since its inception in 2001. Twenty-two organizations shared $94,128.18 in contributions when checks were presented at Chinook Winds Casino Resort. The Siletz Tribe is proud of its con tributions through employment, monetary donations, and cooperative measures to the Siletz community and Lincoln County as a whole. The tribe has honored its tra dition of sharing within the community by distributing more than $3.6 million through the Siletz Tribal Charitable Con tribution Fund and other tribal resources. Chinook Winds has donated more than $550,000 in cash and fund-raising items since it opened in 1995. The casino also provides in-kind donations of con vention space for various fund-raisers as well as technical support, advertising, and manpower for many events. Eligibility for money from the Chari table Contribution Fund is limited to two categories: • • Entities and activities located in the Siletz Tribe’s 11-county service area (Lincoln, Tillamook, Linn, Lane, Benton, Polk, Yamhill, Marion, Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties) Native American entities and activi ties located anywhere in the U.S. The next deadline for submitting applications is Sept. 18, 2005. You must provide proof of age: Lincoln City, OR Kindergarten will be open to all on a space-available basis to the first 20 applicants. After that, they will be put on a waiting list subject to a lottery system. Admission Policies and Procedures: Siletz Valley School will be open to all students on a space-available basis and shall not discriminate in its admission policies or practices that would be illegal if used by the Lincoln County School District. The school will not charge tuition to students who reside within the district. Preference for enrollment will be given to students who reside in the school district. If there are more applications to enroll in the school than there are spaces available, the school shall elect students using a lottery system. June 2005 Call Utilities Before You Dig PORTLAND, Ore. - Did you know that state law requires homeowners to call for locates when planting shrubs and trees? Contractors are aware of these laws, but many homeowners are not. By Oregon law, everyone planning any type of excavation project must call the Oregon Utility Notification Center’s (OUNC) 24-hour toll-free number at 1-800-332-2344. This is a free service provided by utility companies statewide. Homeowners and contractors using power equipment subject themselves to particularly high liability and risk if they fail to make the call and follow the rules. Accidental contact with underground fa cilities might cause hundreds or thousands of residents to be cut off from electricity, gas, telephones, 911 calls, water, and other vital services. Even worse, contact with these lines can cause serious injury. When you make the call, the One- Call Center notifies affected facility op erators who then mark the locations of lines with color-coded paint. With the ground marked in your work area, you have taken the first step to avoid damage or personal injury. Whether you are planting roses, put ting in a sprinkler system, or building a fence, you should always follow these four important steps to dig safely: 1. 2. 3. 4. The One- Call center will notify the facility op erators, who will then take care of marking the property for under ground utilities. Wait for the lines to be marked with color-coded paint.
