NOTICES Native Artisans Invited to Mill-Luck Salmon Celebration Coquille Tribal Culture Event to be Held Sept. 9-11 NORTH BEND, Ore. - Following the remarkable success of last year’s two-day event, the Second Annual Mill- Luck Salmon Celebration will expand to three days, Sept. 9-11, at The Mill Casino Hotel in North Bend. The event provides an opportunity for the Coquille Indian Tribe to share its culture and traditions, along with those of other Pacific Northwest tribes, with residents and visitors to Oregon’s south coast. With first-year attendance exceed ing expectations, the event has gained attention from a growing number of tribes in the Pacific Northwest and be yond. Greater participation has prompted organizers to expand the event to three days. And as the event grows, so do the opportunities for Native artisans. A vendors’ marketplace will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 10 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 11. Native artisans can showcase their handcrafted items in an environment that will feature drumming and dance performances, cultural displays, canoe races, handcraft demonstrations, and a place for families and children to learn Native American games and crafts. This year’s event also will feature two performances by musician Robert Mirabal from the Taos Pueblo in New Mexico. Mirabal’s music has been fea tured in two public television specials, Spirit, and Music from a Painted Cave. A traditional salmon bake will highlight the event as tribal members cook locally caught salmon in a tradi tional Coquille open pit. Vendors interested in reserving a booth for the celebration should con tact Anati Pierce at 541-756-8800, ext. 420, or by e-mail at apierce@ themillcasino.com. Because available spaces are expected to sell out long be fore the event, vendors are encouraged to reserve a space as soon as possible. The deadline for applications is Sept. 1.
