TRIBAL MEMBER NEWS Dorothy Jean Adams Hall 1929 - 2004 A memorial service for Jean Hall was held at the Pendleton Recreation Center on Oct. 23. Dorothy Jean Adams was bom to Russell and Elsie Farrow Adams on April 10, 1929, in Pendleton, Ore. She graduated from Pendleton High School in 1947 and treasured many close friendships from her school years. Following high school, she worked at the First National Bank and in 1950 married David S. Hall. They later di vorced and she and her four children relocated in Salem, Ore. There she worked for Valley Welding Supply Co. and was very involved in her member ship at First Baptist Church. She con tinued to collect lifelong friendships, including her best friend, Ione Barber of Salem. She returned to Pendleton in 1967 and worked for Zigman’s Florists, Pendleton Jr. High School, and eventu ally became the head secretary for Pendleton High School for 12 years with Don Peterson, principal, and Chet Schiewe, vice principal, and many teachers and students she corresponded with throughout the years. Following her retirement in 1979, Jean returned to Salem and was co owner of Celebration Designs Bridal Shop with her daughter, Patrice, and son-in-law, Ric Walters, for 11 years. crafts, decorating for special occasions, singing, and playing the piano. She re tired in 2001 due to illness. To this day, her handiwork can be seen throughout Sunridge, continuing her wish to brighten everyone’s day. Jean was a perfectionist in everything she did and set high standards for her self each day, but also was an example to others in her strong Christian faith and moral principals. Jean is survived by her sister, Julie Adams of Portland, Ore.; sons Timo thy and Kendall (Patty) of Pendleton; daughters Cheryl Svoboda (John) of Idaho Falls and Patrice Walters (Ric) of Pendleton. She was proud of her eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Dorothy Jean Adams Hall Jean was an expert seamstress, de signing and creating beautiful wedding gowns and dfesses for hundreds of Sa- lem-area brides. In addition, she was a wedding coordinator for Woodland Wedding Chapel and was known for attending to every detail to make each wedding as special as it could be. In 1990, Jean returned to Pendle ton, not only caring for her own parents but also for others at Camlu Retirement and became the assistant manager when ownership of the facility changed to Sunridge Retirement Center. He is a business adminis tration student at Oregon State Univer sity and is on an exchange program to Thailand for six months. He started classes in Thailand in August and has been sightseeing during his free time. Joseph wants to encourage more tribal students to consider an exchange program such as his. We look forward to more pictures and information from Joseph when he returns in December.
