TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS Over-Income Housing Grants Again Available Tribal Council has once again provided the Housing Department with $200,000 through the EPR program to fund 40 over-income families with a $5,000 grant for construction rehabilitation on the primary resi dence they own or families who have possessor rights to their home. Over-income refers to tribal members whose income exceeds the income requirements for other tribal housing rehabilitation programs with the exception of the IHS Elders Emergency Assistance Program. Rehabilitation refers to repairs or renovations to the home, but does not include appliances, saunas, hot tubs, swimming pools, etc. Please contact the Housing office at 541-444-8322 or 1-800-922-1399, ext. 1322, should you require additional clarification. If you are a Siletz Tribal member and have not received an over-income grant in the last six years, you can call the housing office to request an application, come by the housing office and ask for an application, or visit any local area office and they will provide you with an application. Interested applicants should sub mit proof of income and mortgage by Aug. 31. The selection process will be a lottery drawing on applica tions received this year because there is no waiting list. This drawing will take place during the regular Tribal Council meeting on Sept. 24-25. All applicants, suc cessful or not, will be notified in writing. Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow News Jobs Available The Siletz Pow-Wow Committee has announced the availability of temporary jobs during the 2004 Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow on Aug. 13-15, including security/main-tenance, kitchen, and merchandise Wages for these jobs are $8/hour for shift supervisors and $7.05/hour for shift workers. If you are interested in these posi tions, you must attend an orientation on Aug. 12 at 10 a.m. on Government Hill. Application packages will be available for completion at orientation. You must have two valid pieces of identification, including a Social Security card and picture I.D. Questions? Please contact Nick Sixkiller for additional information. Nuu-wee-ya’ (our words) Introduction to the Athabaskan Language Open to tribal members of all ages Time to Gather Basket-Making Materials Siletz Siletz Tribal Community Center Aug. 18-6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 15-6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Portland Spring is here and very soon hazel sticks will be ready to pick and peel. Hazel stick gathering is a must for anyone interested in making traditional Siletz baskets. Spruce root can be dug all year round and is used for the weavers or weft of Siletz baskets. Bear grass and maidenhair fem are used for overlay to make our traditional designs or marks in our baskets and both are picked in late summer. Any tribal members interested in gathering can call Bud Lane at 541-444-8320 or 1-800-922-1399, ext. 1320, or e-mail budl@ctsi.nsn.us. Just a reminder - basket materials must be gathered in a timely fashion.
