TRIBAL MEMBER NEWS Depoe, Rosanna Offer Drum, Guitar Lessons on Internet Pete “Last Walking Bear” DePoe has teamed up with longtime friend and business associate Michael “Paco” Rosanna to open an Internet music education program. Through the use of computers and the Internet, they have developed a method of communicating one-on-one with their students. This system allows Pete and Michael to customize each lesson to the needs of each student. Pete teaches drums and percussion instruments, while Michael teaches guitar, electric bass, MIDI programs, and recording engineering. In the future, they plan to add keyboard, brass, and reed instructors when the demand presents itself. Michael has several students in Oregon, Washington, and California. Since March, Pete has been teaching Odessa Smart to play drums. She plays in a family band. Pete is an internationally acclaimed drummer who holds several gold and platinum records as an original member of the rock group Redbone. He’s a member of the Northwest Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame and the national Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Chief Chewescla - Pete’s great-grandfather was DePoe Charlie; his dad was William H. DePoe Sr. After his dad’s passing, his brother, William H. DePoe, Jr., followed as chief and is known as Chief Chewescla. A Chicago native, Michael settled in the Northwest in the early ‘60s. He started playing guitar at age 7. He’s played in several bands, taught music, and currently has a recording studio and production company. Both musicians will tailor their lessons to any skill level, from beginners to advanced. They can communicate by e-mail, DVD, or VHS tape or any means of communication to which both instructors and students have access. Lessons last 40 minutes and cost $25 each. If you’re interested in lessons, contact Pete at depoebear@yahoo.com, Michael at rossana@att.net, or either of them at 360-435-5254. You’ll need to let them know who you are, how old you are, how long you’ve been studying, what musical background you have, where you want to go with your music and why, and how much time you wish to practice.
