A certified list of candidates will appear in the Tribal Voter's Pamphlet, which will be mailed to voters during the week of Jan. 5, 2004. f Tribal Council Elections You may vote absentee by mailing in your ballot. If you vote absentee, your ballot must be received by 4 p.m. on Feb. 7, 2004. Candidate’s Fair Set for Jan. 10 A candidate’s fair will take place on Jan. 10,2004, at 1 p.m. at the Tribal Community Center in Siletz. All tribal members and candi dates are invited to attend and discuss candidate platforms. This event provides a good opportunity for voters to hear well thought-out -................ ■................................................ opinions and strategies from the candidates. All tribal members are encouraged to attend. Election Director Dan Van Otten will facilitate the meeting. This year’s Election Board includes Shannon Case, Lisa Norton, Christine Goodell, and Tina Retasket. Each year, the Enrollment clerk Tribal members are reminded that Advisory Board ■ mails out signature cards to tribal if they have a name change from last The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon has established a Charitable Contributions Advisory Board to distribute profits from Chinook Winds Casino. The advisory board will consist of one Siletz Tribal Council member, three Siletz Tribal members, two non-tribal members from Lincoln County, and one member of the gerenal public from the tribe’s service area. Term of office is three years. Siletz Tribal members interested in serving on this committee must fill out the following form and return it to the address below by Jan. 30, 2004. ' " J J 1 members who are not registered to vote and tribal members who need a new signature card. (If the Enrollment clerk is a candidate for Tribal Council, an alternate staff person will be designated to carry out this responsibility.) Signing and submitting a signature card allows tribal members to receive a ballot in the mail, rather than having to vote in person. Tribal members can elect to vote in person on election day, but many voters find it convenient to vote by absentee ballot rather than travel to Siletz on election day. If you do not have a signature card on file, please contact the Enrollment Clerk at 1-800-922-1399, ext. 258, or 541 -444-8258. Please leave your name and mailing address and one will be mailed to you. year because of marriage, divorce, or other legal name change, they need to fill out and submit a new signature card. Tribal members who have turned 18 since last year’s election also are encouraged to submit a signature card. The burden falls on the tribal member to stay current on signature cards. If it has been a long time since you filed your signature card, you may want to consider filling out a new one. One of the most common problems with existing signature cards is that tribal members’ signatures have changed significantly over the years. Then, when they submit their absentee ballots, the signatures have the potential to not match.
