TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS Siletz Property and Procurement 2nd Annual Auction Coming Up Individuals interested in the Tribal Court Spokesperson Program attend a training session in Siletz. New Spokespersons Sworn In Tribal Court held its spokesperson training in October and three people - Rebekah Goulet, Lisa Norton, and Susan Kay Bione - were sworn in. They join Ray Blacketer, Arliss Chatterson, Keith Taylor, Andrew Viles, Michele Longo Eder, Linda Gast, David Gordon, Diane Henkels, Jeff Hollen, and David Lothrop as spokespersons. The Siletz Tribal Court judges’panel, three attorneys, and two guest speakers collaborated at the training to instruct approved spokesperson applicants, prior spokespersons, and Tribal Court staff. Trainers included judges’ panel members Chief Judge Calvin Gantenbein, Judge Edmund Goodman, and Judge Robert Dickinson. Attorneys who contributed their expertise were Linda Gast, regional director of Legal Aid Services of Oregon; Diane Henkels, private practice attorney; and Stephen Crispen, Siletz Tribal staff attorney. Tribal Court’s grant project coordi nator handed out plaques to the instruc tors and certificates to the attendees. Individuals who took an honorary oath include Aline James, Rebecca Cude, Debra Davidson, Julie Godwin- Tucker, and Dianne McLeod. They can show that they’ve taken the training, but can’t practice because they’re not tribal members or members of a state or tribal bar. The trainings were videotaped, exceptionally good food was provided, and materials were printed and handed out. Approved applicants who missed this training can view it by appointment. Applications for the spokesperson’s program are accepted continuously at Siletz Tribal Court. Tribal government will not discriminate in selection because of race, creed, age, sex, color, national origin, physical handicap, marital status, politics, membership or non-membership in an employee organization. The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon is excessing surplus items. This notice doesn’t include all items to be auctioned, but is a sampling of items to be found. The auction will be held Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. at the Siletz mill site (end of Sturdevant Road in Toledo, Ore., Old Wheeler Mill); signs will be posted. Bidding lasts until all items have been presented. All items will be sold “as is,” no exceptions. The highest bid will determine the successful bidder. The successful bidder must provide cash or check in the amount of the bid. All sales transactions involving the items will be final. It’s the responsibility of the successful bidder to remove the item(s). An open house to view the items will be held Nov. 21 from noon to 4 p.m. Three vehicles also will be available, but won’t be at the mill site. They’ll be just outside of the tribal bullpen located on Logsden Road in Siletz. They include a pickup that does not run; a 1984 GMC bus, which ran beforehand; and an old flatbed truck that doesn’t run. Most items will be sold as lot items.
