Elders Float Wins Cultural Award by Kathryn Dick The Elder Council pulled together again to enter a float in the Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow Parade, winning the Culture Award. The float was titled, “Reclaiming Our Traditions.” Thanks to all the elders who helped put the float together, sat on the float, and then helped take it apart. It was a team effort headed by Rosalie Bremner. Bud Lane loaned us traditional items and also helped with the float. Thank you to Gary McCrary for the bales of hay, Frank Simmons for cutting and bringing the greens used, and all the children who rode along with the elders. Thanks also go to new elder Woody Muschamp, who drove his pickup and pulled the trailer, along with Arlen Kentta. Most of all, the elders want to thank the Public Works Department for its preparation in fixing the trailer for us to use. It was a great change from using our elder bus. Thanks to the Pow-Wow Committee for organizing such a successful pow-wow: Lillie Butler, Kelley Ellis, Valerie and Larry Hibdon, Natasha Kavanaugh, Jack McCord III, Tami Miner, Stephanie Morrow, Angela Ramirez, and Craig Whitehead.
