TRIBAL MEMBER NEWS Graduates Honored at Eagle Feather Ceremony Siletz School principal Jess Kennison presents Apples Lane with the Indian Student of the Year award. Matt Williams Katie Thompson Shane Brown Kristi Barker Rosie Hall Teala Rilatos Siletz Tribal Members Recognized Nine tribal members were recognized by Lincoln County School District’s Indian Education Program on June 9,2003. Indian Education honored 34 Indian high school graduates in Lincoln County for 2003. Special acknowledgements included: Title VII staff would like to thank the 2002-2003 Parent Committee: Al Baca, Mary Eastman, Rhiannon Hamel, Apollonia Lane, Scott Paul, Heather, Rivera, Pat Whetstone, Susan Whetstone, and Lynn Whitlow; and ex officio members Mike and Pat Darcy, Jim Keene, Karen Bell, Pam Ben, Jess Kinnison, Bob Folkers, and Terry Cassidy. The Title VII staff also would like to thank the wonderful Siletz School staff who allowed the Indian Education Program to share the building with them for so many years. We have appreciated the relationship and mourn the loss. Oregon Indian Education has recognized Lincoln County School District’s Indian Educaiton Program staff members Ann Goddard as Indian Educator of the Year and Bill Wilson as Indian Elder of the Year for the school year. Parent Committee member Susan Whetstone was recognized as Parent of the Year and Apollonia Lane was recognized as Indian Student of the Year for the state of Oregon. The Lincoln County School District’s Indian Education Program staff for the 2002-2003 school year has consisted of Fred Rider, Patty Savage Socha, Juanita Whitebear, Ann Goddard, and Bill “White Eagle” Wilson. Attention Tribal Hunters The Natural Resources Com mittee met with Oregon state officials regarding hunting, fishing, and gathering issues. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has cut back on the antlerless deer tags again because of the hair loss disease that the doe has contracted. The Natural Resources Com mittee has recommended that antlerless deer tags be distributed on a lottery basis, so watch for the antlerless deer tag drawing appli cation that will be circulated soon.
