LETTERS TO THE EDITOR To the editor: On Dec. 25, 2002, community members gathered at the Siletz Grange for the Community Children Christmas Program and Christmas Day Dinner sponsored by the Siletz Valley Grange, the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon, and the Siletz Valley Partnership. Donations of food and miscellaneous items came from Little Chief Restaurant, Pepsi, Toledo JC Market, Siletz School, Siletz City Hall, the Siletz Grange, and numerous community members. Kitchen help and servers: Nicole Mundt; Liz, Anna, and Delina John; Kari Murk; Sue Eatherly; Julie Frogge; Kathy Stewart; Lynn Whitlow; Jim and Lucy Ferguson; Larry Arnold; Debbie Fawver; Jess Kennison; and many more. We served approximately 110 persons and gave out roughly 85 gifts to children, who also had their pictures taken with Santa. The Christmas tree was donated by the Marthalier family of Siletz. The Siletz Valley Partnership would like to recognize the Siletz Tribe for their cooperative work between the Community Children Christmas Program and the Christmas Day Dinner 2002. Organizations working together in the community to assist citizens of different ethnic backgrounds and cultures and those experiencing difficult times is what brings our community together as a family. Thank you ! Michelle Schaffer Siletz Valley Partnership To the editor: Dear Tess and Larry Green of Lyons, Oregon - Happy 48th Anniversary! Thank you for raising me to be the person I am today. You have taught me more than you think you have. I am forever grateful for making sure we had family time together, even if it was just to go out for Bob’s 19-cent hamburgers in the early days ... or those fantastic two-week vacations that allowed us to visit so many other states and Canada. I think the New Mexico vacation trip was my favorite. Then again, the memories of passing through Northern Idaho are hard to beat (heeheehee). Thank you for pushing me through school and seeing that I graduated with my class. Thanks for all the mini-vacations to Reno. Thank you for supporting me through all the rough times I have had since leaving the nest. I think that “Little Blue-bird” is still telling on me! How long do these tattletales live anyway? I could go on and on with this. Thank you for letting me be me. I love you both so very much. Bunni Snook (Bun) To the editor: The 2002 Giving Tree Committee would like to extend a great big thank you to all of you who helped make this year’s giving a success! A special thank you to Natural Resources for the beautiful tree; to Arlen Kentta for limbing it so it would fit in the building(!); to Stan Werth and Dan Lundy for helping to set up the tree; to all of you who decorated the tree; to Caroline Easter (and her back- To the editor: This past holiday season, I was reminded that my “family” is just not my immediate members I see on a daily basis. Living here in Salem, away from Siletz, I am not able to see those I love as often as I should. Unfortunately, I have taken for granted all that I have and have not said thank you or picked up the phone often enough to say hello and to let people know that even though I do not see them, they are not forgotten. This year, they did it for me. I am strong not only because of my desire to be so, but because of those who have been there time after time for me. From my first varsity game as an awkward freshman to my wedding day when everyone was there to support me. Thank you to everyone because you know who you are. You have asked for nothing, but given much. With all my love, LuElla Gonzales Send letters to: Siletz News P.O. LaRita Lundy and Chuvonne Metcalf 2002 Giving Tree Committee To the editor: I want to thank Contract Health for finally getting to the out-of-area people for health benefits. It has been a long time coming. Everyone, remember to get your health applications in and remember that you have to get preauthorization for every visit before you go and make sure your doctor takes contract health while you make your appointment. And if your doctor’s office doesn’t understand how to bill, have them call the 1-800# to get instructions. It only takes a minute and that way, questions are not left unanswered. Because, remember, you are responsible for your doctor’s bills in the eyes of the doctors’ offices. I know. Every benefit our tribe has been able to give us is greatly appreciated.
