IHS Scholarships Available Indian Health Service Scholarship Program applications for the 2002-2003 academic year are now available. Full- time and part-time scholarships will be funded for each program listed below. Health Professions Preparatory Scholarships are awarded to American Indians or Alaskan Natives who (1) have successfully completed high school education or high school equivalency and (2) have been accepted for enrollment in compensatory, pre-professional general education courses. Support is limited to two years for full-time students and the part-time equivalent of two years (not to exceed four years) for part-time students. Eligible academic programs considered are: Pre-Dietetics Pre-Engineering Pre-Medical Technology Pre-Nursing (Jr. and Sr. under graduate years e. Pre-Pharmacy f. Pre-Physical Therapy g. Pre-Social Work a. b. c. d. Health Professions Pregraduate Scholarships are awarded to American Indians and Alaskan Natives who (1) have successfully completed high school education or high school equivalency and (2) have been accepted for enrollment or are enrolled in an accredited pregraduate program leading to a baccalaureate degree in: a. b. Pre-Medicine Pre-Dentistry h. i. j. k. 1. Support is limited to four years for full-time students and the part-time equivalent of four years (not to exceed eight years) for part-time students. Health Professions Scholarships are awarded only to individuals who are members of a federally recognized tribe (state-recognized does not qualify). To be eligible for this scholarship, the individual (1) must be enrolled in a federally recognized tribe and (2) must be enrolled in an appropriately accredited school and pursuing a course of study in one of the health professional programs as follows: Chemical Dependency Counseling Civil Engineering - B.S. degree Clinical Psychology - Ph.D. level only d. Counseling Psychology - Ph.D. level only e. Coding Specialist - certificate program f. Dental Hygiene - B.S. degree g. Dentistry a. b. c. m. n. o. p. q. r. s. t. u. v. w. x. y. z. aa. bb. Dietician - B.S. degree Environmental Engineering - B.S. degree Health Care Administration - B.S. and M.S. degrees Health Education-master’s degree program only Health Records Administration - RHIT and RHIA Injury Prevention Specialist Medical Social Work - master’s degree program only Medical Technology - B.S. degree Medicine: allopathic and osteopathic Nursing - ADN, BSN, MSN degrees Optometry Paroptome tries Pharmacy-B.S. degree and PharmD Physical Therapy - graduate and undergraduate Physician Assistant Podiatry: DPM Public Health - MPH only Public Health Nutrition - master’s level only Radiology Technology - certificate, associate, and B.S. Respiratory Therapist - associate X-Ray/Ultrasonagraphy (must have X-Ray background) Support is limited to four years for full-time students and part-time equivalent of four years (not to exceed eight years) for part-time students. The Health Professions Scholarship requires a payback obligation that equals each year of support given or a minimum of two years. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ Benefits $1,045 monthly living stipend Direct “full” tuition payment to recipient’s school Payment of reasonable education expenses (as determined by school) $400 available for tutorial expenses (annually) Scholarship renewed if recipient maintains good academic status Application deadline is April 1, 2002.
