TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS Bob Tom Honored Bob Tom was honored at the Grand Ronde Elders Honor Day by Edmond Ben. Bob was on the first Tribal Council, which was instrumental in the restoration of the Siletz Tribe. He later was the tribe’s first general manager. After a few years, he took on the education director position and worked there until he retired. He still is active on boards and committees as a representative with some of the colleges with which he worked. Bob has helped many tribal members. He encouraged many students to complete their goals. Bob Tom Edmond stated that Bob has touched many lives and because of his dedication, he wanted to honor Bob with a drum. Eiders Attend Grand Ronde Honor Day On July 20, approximately 30 Siletz Elders attended the Honor Day event at the Grand Ronde Community Center. It was a fun day of visiting eiders from all over Oregon who gathered for the day. Maude Lane received a fleece blanket for being the eldest woman in attendance. There was lots of good food, live music, and fun. We played Bingo and each person received a gift. Everyone enjoyed a fun time. Another Year of Wisdom Happy Birthday! Upcoming Elder Events Sept. 8 Elders Meeting Chinook Winds Casino, 2 p.m. Sept 11-13 Pendleton Trip Fifty-five elders have signed up to attend the Pendleton Round-Up. We will leave on Sept. 11, attend senior day events on Sept. 12, and travel home on Sept. 13. Sept. 14-16 Run to the Rogue Approximately 25 elders will attend the Run to the Rogue. We will travel on Sept. 14, attend the activities on Sept. 15, and travel home on Sept. 16. Take part in Native American Wellbriety Month by attending the Wellbriety Walk to Dinner at the Siletz Tribal Community Center on Sept. 26 at 5 p.m., beginning at the tribal administration building. A free workshop by Caroline Cruz, tribal liaison for the Office of Alochol and Drug Abuse Programs, will follow the dinner.
