TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS Tribal Court News from the office of Tribal Court August The Tribal Court chief judge and court administrator met with the ANA project coordinator, Ad-hoc and Culture committees on developing the community court. Tribal Court sponsored the North West Tribal Court Judges Association (NWTCJA) meeting at Chinook Winds on Aug. 17-18. Chief Judge Calvin Gantenbein attended the Fourth Annual Conference Excess Gaming Pledge Revenue This is the budget for the 2000 Excess Gaming Pledge Revenue for FY2001. September Judge Gantenbein, Judge Ed Goodman and the court administrator will attend a domestic violence training in Portland, Ore., on Sept. 11. The third quarter judges’ meeting is scheduled for Chinook Winds on Sept. 22. It’s a real pleasure to have these young energetic workers with us. We are teaching them to be dependable hard-workers, which will pay off someday when they acquire full-time jobs as adults. We are teaching them warehouse management, client services, and office skills, along with the basics of working hard and having fun working for a worthwhile cause. Thank you to everyone who made it possible to have a Summer Youth Employment Program. Linda Flackus (I) and Kitti Hostler Hostler Receives USDA Award Kitti Hostler, USDA director for the Siletz Tribe, recently received a Superior Service Award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for her dedication and service to tribal members. She is the first USDA director to receive this award. Linda Flackus from the USDA, Food and Nutrition Service in Portland, Ore., presented the award by reading the following: ‘7 am very honored to be here today. I came with something very important to share with you. It's not often that we as program specialists for the Food and Nutrition Service get to go out specifically from our office solely to honor someone. Someone said to me very recently, “It’s a good thing to acknowledge good people " and that is why I’m here today. I have worked with Tribal Commodity Food Programs in Oregon for almost 20 years now. In my memory, and in the memory of the section chief of Food Distribution in our Western Regional office in San Francisco, the certificate! am presenting to one of your program directors today has never been presented before. The recommendation and approval went up from our office in Portland through all the different levels to the highest level in our Western Region, Allen Ng, our regional administrator, and it is his signature that appears on this certificate.
