TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS Larson Selected October Elder of the Month Name: Iola Larson of Woodburn, Ore., was born on May 4, 1911. Tribal band: Tootootney Family: Father - Alfred Arthur Marious Aasen; Mother - Nellie Agnes Jackson (Siletz); Siblings - Oscar Aasen, Nellie Anna, and Alfred Aasen Spouse: Bill Larson. They traveled for years after retirement; Bill has taken many beautiful photographs of their adventures. Children: llrla Ann Fife and Earl David Edmonds, plus nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Interests/hobbies: Current hobbies include crocheting, knitting, reading, and crossword puzzles. Advice to younger generation: “Stay away from cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs. Name: Maude Lane of Siletz, Ore., was born on June 1, 1901. Tribal Band: Mother of many members Family: Father - William Porter and Musa Cubler Siblings: 12 siblings Children: Joseph Lane, William Lane, Gladys Bolton, Alfred Lane Jr., Arthur Lane, Donna Woods, Rose Bremner, and Delores Pigsley, plus 32 grandchildren, and roughly 120 great- and great-great-grandchildren. Interests/hobbies: The casino is Maude’s biggest interest. Maude loves crocheting. Advice to younger generation: “Work hard and keep your family together.” I have had such a wonderful experience becoming acquainted with our tribal elders. I think everyone should know a little something about each of them, recognize them, and get to know them. 8 A great big thank you to Rosemary Landis for her generous donation of a golf cart to the elders. The cart will be used to assist elders during events at the Tribal Community Center or wherever the need arises.
