TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS Housing Improvement Program News by Tammy Wagner The deadline for the year 2001 is Dec. 1, 2000. Everyone is encouraged to apply. Our funding is based on eligible applicants every year, so please apply if you need assistance for home improvements or if you want down payment assistance. The deadline to turn in income verification and DR verifications for disabilities was May 24. Anyone who did not turn in 1999 income taxes or other proof of income is now on the inactive list. We currently are processing complete applications and will have the list finalized by July 1. If you have any questions about your application, please contact Tammy Wagner at 1-800-922-1399, ext. 322, or 541-444-8322. Applicants will be notified by mail on the status of their application. The silent auction was a success. We raised $483 for the Elders Emergency Repair Fund. The Siletz Tribal Smokehouse, Idel Ramsey of the Lincoln City Visitors and Convention Bureau, DUB Bellinger, Elena Bassett, Robert Kentta, Lisa Brown, Tamara and Aaron Morrow, Bunni Snook, Coastal Cuts, Chinook Winds, Shilo Hotel, and the Education Committee donated items. We had a lot of nice stuff, including one of the 2000 glass floats, a Chinook Winds coat, pine nut necklaces, a dentalium necklace^ hand-woven mats, and lots of jewelry. Thank you to everyone who bid on these items. We have started working on this year’s annual food booth at the Nesika lllahee Pow- Wow. Once again, we will make barbecue chicken, corn on the cob, and potato salad. We also will raffle off two 21-speed Mongoose mountain bikes either at the pow We are still recruiting contractors for general, excavating, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work. If you are licensed, bonded, and have insurance, contact Tammy to be put on our mailing list. We also have a 10 percent preference policy for 51 percent properly licensed Indian-owned contractors. Two slots have opened up for tribal members in a carpenter’s apprenticeship program. The first job is working on the expansion of the Safeway store in Lincoln City. We made a presentation to June Austin during the elders meeting in Siletz. June served on the HIP Committee for eight years. She was an intricate part of the Housing Program, helping with several projects during the time she served on the committee. June was not able to return to the HIP Committee this year due to her husband’s health, but plans to return when she is able. We presented a Pendleton blanket and a dentalium necklace to her. We would like to take this opportunity to again thank June for all of her help over ■ Bill, Randy, and June Austin the years. We appreciate all you have done.
