The country/pop/gospel group has recorded three platinum and 10 gold albums, and scored hits like “Elvira,” “American Made,” and “Thank God For Kids.” They have performed before the crowned heads of Europe and three U.S. presidents (not to mention millions of regular people), signed with TNN to host their own weekly variety series, and won pretty much every award a music act can, from Grammies to top honors from Sweden’s Kountry Korral Magazine. Concert times are 8 p.m. on Friday and 7 and 10 p.m. on Saturday. Ticket prices range from $35 to $45, depending on seat location. Chairman, con’t from page 3 “Business of the Year in 1998” for its contributions to the city. Then there is Leslie Green, a realtor whose lawyer husband filed suit to try to stop the tribe from opening Chinook Winds, claiming all kinds of dire consequences. She is quoted by Jensen as saying, “Real estate values have not increased since Chinook Winds located in Lincoln City,” failing to report ECONorthwest’s conclusion that “Without Chinook Winds, the city would have 533 fewer residents and 11.8 percent lower property values." Also objectionable was Jensen’s final statement, “According to local police, three new businesses have opened during that time: pawnshops.” In the first place, there were no pawnshops in Lincoln City in 1998 and there still aren’t. Jensen’s linking of pawnshops, which are, incidentally, controlled and licensed by the state, to the tribe's casino and convention center was irresponsible. We have lodged complaints with the Salem Statesman Journal and The Oregonian for their poorly researched articles. Fifth Anniversary of Chinook Winds And finally, let’s remember that we celebrate the fifth anniversary of Chinook Winds on June 24. Details of the celebration are listed on page 23. 25
