JOB OPENINGS POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT POSITION: Dentist LOCATION: Siletz, Oregon SALARY: Depends upon experience SUPERVISOR: Dental Officer POSITION: Pharmacist LOCATION: Siletz, Oregon SALARY: Negotiable SUPERVISOR: Medical Officer MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: DDS or DMD degree from an accredited school of dentistry and licensed to practice dentistry in Oregon, or ability to acquire licensure. Knowledge and skill in standard and moderately complex clinical dental practice. Skill in dealing with people and ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing. Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with health staff, tribal staff, and tribal leaders, as well as other health professionals. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have use of personal transportation. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy with one year of clinical experience preferred. Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in Oregon or be able to obtain licensure. Must possess a valid Oregon driver’s license and have use of a reliable personal vehicle. RESPONSIBILITIES: Review patient’s medical chart for evidence of disease or abnormalities that could be adversely affected by dental treatment and take necessary precautions to insure safe and effective treatment. Perform oral examinations to include inspection of hard and soft tissues of oral cavity and insure that exam results are properly recorded in patient’s chart. Diagnose pathological or irregular conditions. Develop patient treatment plans and ensure proper referral of patients for necessary medical evaluation or specialty care, if beyond the scope of general dental practice, and ensure that patients understand proposed treatment plan. Request required dental radiographs and perform radiographic interpretation. Perform restoration of cavities with standard and prescribed material. Provide all appropriate dental disease prevention measures for each patient. Perform single and multiple extractions of teeth as well as remove unerupted and impacted teeth and residual root tips. Remove localized foreign bodies from the gingival tissues and alveolar sockets. Perform root canal therapy. Perform routine prosthodontic procedures and routine pedodontic procedures. Perform prosthetic work involving complicated conditions. Diagnose malocclusions and refer for proper orthodontic treatment. Treat oral and gingival infections. As necessary, may serve in other areas of incumbent’s discipline. RESPONSIBILITIES: Independently carry out all clinical pharmacy functions, including selection, compounding, and dispensing. In selection, must identify fine differences between drugs as they relate to therapeutic efficiency of the product. In compounding prescriptions, must follow established techniques or develop techniques adaptable to new and complex drugs. In dispensing, must be accurate with dosage and identification of therapeutic incompatibilities to avoid patient injury or distress. Provide consultative services and advice to patients regarding instruction for use of drugs, any special requirements for storage, and if the drugs are unstable, instructions on destroying them after a set period of time. Consult with medical, nursing, and other clinic staff or tribal representatives on improving and increasing efficiency of the pharmacy service. Provide information and consultative advice to clinical physicians on contraindications and side effects. Suggest alternative medicine to avoid incompatibilities, alleviate side effects, overcome potentiating drug combinations, and prevent adverse reactions. Responsible for administrative operation of the pharmacy, including records, reports, stock control and storage, and general management. Provide monitoring and quality control of prescription program of Contract Health Services. Responsibility for Quality Assurance and Utilization Review functions as outlined by the standards of the Joint Commission. As necessary, may serve in other areas of incumbent’s discipline. Ability to achieve and maintain appropriate board certification and licensure with the state of Oregon. Possess, or be able to obtain, licensure and registration for prescribing and dispensing narcotics and controlled drugs. Possess, or be able to obtain, ACLS certification. Ability to work with a wide variety of people; ability to communicate effectively and relate to tribal and community members, staff, and federal, state, and local health agencies. May be required to obtain hospital privileges. Must possess a valid Oregon driver’s license and have use of personal transportation. RESPONSIBILITIES: Assume primary responsibility for overall medical program services. Provide medical screening, evaluation, diagnoses, and treatment of health problems and routine outpatient 10 surgeries and procedures. Provide emergency medical care. Coordinate referral services with appropriate staff, i.e., Contract Health Services or medical social worker, if patient’s medical needs are beyond the limits of the facility or practitioner. Participate in and support the clinic’s Quality Assessment and Improvement Program. Legibly document all patient visits on patient care component form immediately following the encounter. Entries in patient medical records should be in the standard SOAP format. Establish and coordinate protocols, policies and procedures. Maintain ongoing review of clinic standards of care and standing orders and monitor as needed. Responsible for technical supervision of medical staff. Provide positive participation on committees as assigned. Plan and coordinate preventive and health education program. Provide long-term and ongoing treatment and education for chronically ill patients and their families. Assume a primary role in infectious disease prevention, monitoring, reporting, and follow-up, and coordinate with other medical staff, state, and local offices.
