Effective January 1. 1998 CHS Optometry Benefit Explained ■ News for a ll' CHS-eligible Tribal Members (Inside the 11 -county service area): Priority #1 Patients (Elders 55 years of age and over; full-time students; and diabetics) Currently, for Priority #1 patients, CHS will pay up to $250. ■of eye ware and one optometry exam every 12 months. The $250. limit applies to the cost of glasses and/or contact lenses. CHS normally pays for medically necessary items only. You can order tints, progressive ("no-line bifocal") lenses, and transition ("photogray") lenses if you agree to pay any additional costs beyond the $250. allowance. Tints are not covered beyond the $250. limit unless prescribed by your eye doctor and approved by CHS.
