A fter learning th a t th e re are a few cupcake shops w ithin five miles of Clackamas C om m unity College, I was determ ined to fin d Oregon City’s best cupcake. Little did I know, I was in fo r a real treat. I started my quest on Friday, April 17.1 knew th a t w ith the help of the co editor in chief and fellow cupcake lover, Erin Carey, we would be able to find the per fect cupcake. We started our journey at Fat Cupcake, located about a half a mile or tw o minutes away from CCC. You can’t tell from the outside, b u t the inside of the shop is very cute w ith a lot o f color ful, vintage-looking decorations. There are tables located inside and outside the shop (weather perm itting). While the inside of the shop was very pretty, what really mattered was the cup cakes. I asked the store owner, Anjelica Hayes, which cupcake was most popular. She suggested Carey and I try the “Charlie Brown." She explained it Is c h o c o la te cake w ith a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup baked into th e center and p eanut b u tte r b utter cream frosting. I was practically drooling at th a t point. I also w anted to try something really unique th a t I haven’t seen before, so I ordered a “Lemon Doodle.” Hayes In form ed Carey and me th a t this cupcake is a w h ite cake w ith a snicker-doodle cookie on to p w ith lemon but tercream. Carey was particularly e xcite d to try this one. B e fo re w e gave th e firs t tw o cupcakes a try, w e m oved on to our second destination, Pure Bliss Bakery. This bakery is located about tw o miles away from cam- and h a lf m inutes. From th e pus or ten it looks like a small o u ts id e would be kind of house,, it i to fin d If it hard 4 w e re n ’t fo r the flags outside th a t indicate th a t it is, in fact, a bakery. The inside is very small w ith not many decorations; there were only a few small tables. W hat surprised me most was w hen I looked into their case of baked goods, they only had one cupcake available. Carey and I got the one they had, which was a “Shirley Tem ple” cupcake. They mainly had scones a n d d iffe r e n t v a ria tio n s o f cinnam on rolls, w h ich was un exp e cte d con s id e rin g th e ir logo has a cup cake on It. Our last stop w as Sugar and Spice Cupcakes. After getting lost and doing a little fu rth e r research, we learned th a t this shop only makes their cakes to order, therefore they are o u t o f the running. Finally it was tim e to try the cupcakes. was the first The “Charlie Brown” contender fo r Overall I don’t think you could go wrong with anything from Fat Cupcake. the perfect cupcake. Carey did not like how much peanut butter was involved, but I loved It. I th o u g h t everything was spot on about this cupcake, I give it a 10 out o f 10. Next w e trie d th e “Shir ley Temple” from Pure Bliss Bakery. It was disappointing to say the least. The frosting was clearly made w ith a lot of shortening and It left a greasy feeling In my mouth. The cake was also kind of dry and crumbly, so I think it deserves a 2 out of 10. The “Lemon Doodle” from Fat Cupcake was the last cupcake to try. Carey really enjoyed this one, she liked the lemon buttercream. I thought it was goodi p robably an 8 o u t o f 10, b u t I preferred the chocolate-peanut butter com bination of the Charlie Brown. Overall I d o n ’t th in k you could go wrong w ith anything from Fat Cupcake. Pure Bliss Bakery was more o f a café a tm osphere th a n a bakery, I w o u ld go back fo r a scone and a coffee, b u t d e fin ite ly n o t f cupcakes.
