BUDGET: College asks for staff input Continued from Page 1 Input and ideas from the staff may be considered by the Budget Committee but the C C C board o f education will have the final sore when it decides next ytar’s budget thus spring. T he tuition hike is pretty imminent along with these huge payments that need to be made. T he college will likely look to future hikes in these fees to supplement a bleak outlook in revenue sources The failure ol last years bond measure and the questionable possibility o f voters passing any future bonds make for difficult budget deci sions in the fururc However that financial,vote goes, Courtney Wilton, vice president o f college services and Elizabeth Lundy, vice president o f instructional services, seemed to project ' optimistic feelings that the college would be able to : the budget work, while satisfying the overall goals the college has to meet the needs ol students and sufl *Wu are a people business,” they both said at one point during the forum. Adam Hall, full umc Faculty Association President and C C C m ath instructor for 14 years, was at the budget forums and feels that the forums are a way to produc- rive discussion and input developed from but with a caveat. ‘W e need to get enough people there,” he said. Past forums have had more participants that resulted in a more dynamic discussion, according to Hall. “During past forums we had subst.tnn.dlv more participants Lets it, if were only getting ten to 30 to come, m at means d u t ¡is not going to be a wav to communicare to all staff fy,” he said. t Howley, chair o f the horticulture department, asked W ilton how die college would go about planning and passing a successful bona measure “W e went out last M ay and w e basically got killed,” W ilton said. “Its likely we are not going out for a new bond measure in the near future. W e could probably go out in a few years. Hopefully the environment will be better then.” In spite o f the hard budget decisions the college is 1 a productive discussion that t hearted and casual. There were many audience chuckles that were shared by the speakers even as serious issues and concerns were aired. : W ilton concluded the forum by reassuring the partici pants d u t the staffat die college was doing a gtxxl job in spite o f some tough circumstances. “We’d like to reaffirm the good job that 99 percent o f our employees are doing.
