Manley Tayo Stalnaker The Clackamas Print The Clackamas Print The student-directed one-act plays will perform, free of charge, from Nov. 29 through Dec. 1 in the Osterman Theatre. Performances will run from noon to one, in addition to a spe cial lengthened performance at 7 p.m. on Dec. 1. The plays are “Love Poem #98,” “The Last Word,” and “Entertaining Mr. Helms.” “Love Poem #98” is about “a man and a woman in a troubled relationship, trying to come to terms with their deviant sexual fantasies,” says Matt Morrison, the play’s director. Morrison says he picked the play, which is presented in a film noir tone, because “Everyone, including myself, always looks for the punchiest, most absurd ... we look for the comedies. And so I decided to look for something different.” In contrast, Daphne Starling describes “The Last Word,” which she is directing, as a farce. “The Last Word” is about a couple who, as the end of the world approaches, have chosen to share tiieir last moments in a secluded, empty bar. “The tone is very manic, mixed with vibes of paranoia,” says Starling. “I prefer plays where I can be extremely creative and Clackamas Pi The writer-tumed-direc- tor Shane Black, of “Lethal Weapon” fame, brings us his directorial debut “Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang.” The title, reminiscent of old detective pulp novels and noir films, tells one a little of what to expect. However, while it seems to be a typical “buddy movie,” it turns out to be much more than that. Robert Downey Jr., Vai Kilmer and Michelle Monaghan star in this off-the-wall, satirical look at the hard-boiled crime genre. The plot offte film is fairly simple ... but not really. Hany Lockhart (Downey), a small time thief, is running-from the police in New York after a failed burglary attempt. He somehow ends up at a casting call for a mystery movie. Lockhart is cast in the movie, winds up at a party in L.A., and ineets his old- high-school crush, Harmony Faith Lane (Monaghan). Kilmer and I time these jokes so well keeps the audience fron ing about the movie’s storyline because they’n ing so hard. Some critics have this movie off as just “buddy movie” or a “Pulp Fiction’’,lqpfealiH they have entirely mis point.
