In 1897, Hale buil a 40-inch wide telescope, the largest ever built at that time. His second telescope, with a 60-inchl lens, was set up in 1917 and took 14 years to build. During the 14 years, Hale became convince! that he suffered from a disorder in which the excessive ambitions of the individual drive them I insane. The Haggart Observatory, the only public observa tory in western Oregon, is open for public viewing on clear Saturday nights. The observatory opens at dusk, and viewing begins at dark and continues for about three hours. A $3 donations is requested. The work shops are scheduled for campus Saturdays May 14 and June 4, from 9-11 a.m. All three workshops take place at the Home Com posting Demonstration site, south of Clairmont Hall. James Davis will be teaching a class covering the basics of bird identi fication in the Environ mental Learning Cen ter’s Lakeside Hall. The class begins tonight, and goes from 7:30 to. 9 p.m. There is an $8 fee. CCC’s High Five team, made up of Phi Theta Kappa and ASG mem bers, challenged PCC in a Jeopardy like Game show challenge. Game will air on Sunday, June 26, at 6:30 a.m, on KOIN- TV and will air again on Tuesday, June 28 on Comcast channel 14.
