Still others are obvious, but just aren’t worthy of a good nap. Below is a list of the best places to doze off, in order from good to excellent. Randall Hall: This cove of couches is located up the staircase that is to your left as you come in the doors nearest Barlow hall. McLoughlin Hall: The entire 2nd floor of McLoughlin is lit tered with couches. What’s nice about McLoughlin is that there are some couches that are pushed back into a dark comer or alcove, creating a quieter atmosphere. Upper level Barlow Hall: On the second floor of Barlow hall, there is a stretch of hallway that contains a few old couches that starts near the student lounge area. These couches aren’t particularly special; how ever their proximity to the vend ing machines makes this spot comfortable. Rook Hall: In the Literary Arts Center, there are a couple different ways for one to take a nap. The first is to lay on the benches, but you have to be of a certain width, or else you may fall off. So if you’re fat but you try it anyway, I take no responsibility for the results of your obvious lack of nap time competence. However, there is a second choice for our more portly read ers. If you take about seven chairs, and then line them all up, you can create a comfortable surface to lay on (this isn’t rec ommended if there is a class in the LAC). Another option is to take a nap on one of the bench es built into the wall in the upstairs hallway. Under the Trees (seasonal): Not to be confused with trees behind the Community Center (which smell like smokers), this is a tough one to describe but an easy one to find if you’re pay ing attention. Also, if you plan on napping here this time of year, it is best that you do it in layers, seeing as you will be napping at the mercy of Oregon weather. There are three nice benches located under some trees in front of the Pauling Center.. Community Center: As you walk into this building, head toward the center until you are able to look to your left or right and see the fireside lounge. There are two couches right in front of it. This spot is good for those of you who like being near the cafe teria, and it is also good for those of you that prefer wide open spaces for their naps. Lower level Barlow Hall: The best public location to sleep, this spot is located by the auto garages in Barlow. If you are coming in Barlow from an on- campus entrancb, the best way to find these couches is to head toward title bathrooms in the cen ter of the building, and then go down the stairs, and you will see the couches to your right. The Print Lab: By far the best couch to take a nap on is located in the Newspaper Lab. I’d tell you how to get there, but you need a password to get in, so why bother? tonal Services department offers easy, accessible aid n Triplett zckamas Print [utorialServices depart- moved to their new office and is ready to assist stu- vhatever way possible, ting is available to all stu- 'ing college level classes, tides classes like Math 20, e not technically college cause] college level math starts at 111,” said Coordinator of Special Services, Casey Sims. “The only classes that don’t qualify that people get confused about [would be a class like] ESL, which isn’t a college class, but is at the college,” Sims went on to say. Before a student can get a tutor, they need to talk to their teacher first. If the teacher decides that he or she cannot help the struggling student, then the teacher will recommend a tutor. “Come to our office here at CC142, and ask about [a tutor]. We’ll give you a white card [which is] called ‘request for tutorial assis tance.’ You fill it out, you have your instructor sign it, and bring it back to us.” The Tutorial Services Center also shares an office with the Disability Resource Center. Last year, there wasn’t a Tutorial Services office; Tutorial Services was a part of the Disability Resource Center. Sims thought this was inappropriate, since many people have trouble with one or two subjects, not just per sons with disabilities. The department tries to get tutors for students age-according- ly. However, Sims made it clear that while they want students to get along with their tutors, they are not inclined to cater to stu dents’ romantic needs. make $8.53 an hour, and work up to “It’s kind of the luck of the 12 hours a week.
