____ 5 December 4, 2002 The Clackamas Print Students take lead News Editor Students are running the show this week at the McLoughlin Theater.. Once again, the Clackamas Theater department is providing a valuable learning experience for drama students through one-act plays. Students do all the work in these short plays, from directing and cast ing to technical production and pub licity. They will be presenting two plays, “The Fifteen Minute Hamlet” and “Big Red Riding Hood.” Both are comedies, and sure to bring lots of light-hearted laughs to campus. Christine Quinlan is directing “The Fifteen Minute Hamlet,” writ ten by Tom Stoppard. “It’s a short, comedic version of Hamlet,” Quinlan said. “It’s four-and-a-half hours condensed into 15 minutes.” The plotline roughly follows that of the original work by Shakespeare, it just gets to the point a little faster. The stars of “The Fifteen Minute Hamlet” are all students at Clackamas. Eric Nicolarson, Bob Alsman, Matt Morrison, Malorie Rode and Elizabeth Wilson com prise the cast. All of the actors will portray multiple characters in the story of Hamlet. Wendy Reese is directing “Big Red Riding Hood” by Herald Cable. “It’s a children’s play, but we’ve kind of turned it into a more adult comedy,” Reese said. In the play, Granny is trying to start her own pastry company, “Granny’s Goodies,” and consequentially Little Red Riding Hood has eaten too many sweets. The cast of “Big Red Riding Hood” features Sarah Pearson as Ms. Hood, Mandy Alexander as Granny, and Tom Cavanaugh as Grandpa. Stephen Braker will por tray the hunter, and Rosetta will be played by Bekah Finch. Last, but not least, the Schuyler will be played by Mat Lingmann. The plays will run at noon Dec. 3-5, and Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in the McLoughlin Hall Theater. Admission is free! CD Picks of the Week A&E Editor “It’s only lies that I’m living. It’s only tears that I’m crying. It’s only you that Fm losing.” - “Guess I’m Doing Fine” - Beck broke up with a girl, and with that came the musical greatness featured on his latest album “Sea Change.” Those who appreciate Beck solely for the pop hits that get airtime and funky videos on MTV arc going to be in for some disap pointment with this release, “Sea Change” has about as much cheer and happiness, as a little boy who lost his puppy. At first listen, it cabght me a little bit off guard. But after a few times, I really found myself enjoying it. |||. Track after track is yet another depressing look into Beck’s broken heart. Fans of this album might also want to delve into another purchase. Finally making his album debut with “Musicforthemomingafter.” Pete Yom is breaking into the singer/songwriter scene. With this INTERNET PHOTO eclectic mix of upbeat and mellow songs, Yom is sure to make a name for himself. ' Throughout the 14 tracks, Yom takes the listener through a musical journey of heartache^ pleasure, sad ness and delight. His musical style is comparable to that of David Gray Or John Mayer. But the musical prowess that Yom contains far exceeds that of other singer/songwriters within Otis genre. . /x• ■ • '■ .. '■ ■. •. ' With Beck currently on tour, and Pete Yom planning some upcoming dates, fans ate sure to be able to check out these great artists live.
