NICK BARRON Staff Writer As the CCC volleyball team knows, sometimes things just don’t go your way. The season ended for the Cougars when they dropped their first two matches in a double-elimination tourna ment, the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Col leges Champiottships, Novi 15 and 16 in Bellevue, Washington. In their first match, Clackamas faced Clark Community College and lost three straight games. The score for the first game was 30-17, 27-30 for the second and 14-16 for the third and final game. Lori Frèe led the team in digs with 13, while Sarah Entenman had five serving aces against Clark. Ellie Raines and Free tied for the team lead in kills in the match with Clark at seven. After their first loss, the Cou gars were forced to battle against Shoreline Community College. Clackamas lost the first game by a score of 26-30, yet won the second game of the match 30-28. As they fought for their season, the Cougars lost game three, 29-31, and game four, 21-30. The fight seemingly left the Cougars, though, as they dropped their final game and final match of the year. Against Shoreline, Lori Free led the team in kills with 17 and digs with 20. Corinne Lawrence aided the Cougar attack with 13 kills, as did Sarah Entenman with 22 assists. Despite these efforts, Clackamas lost to the Shoreline team that had re corded only one regular season loss. Coach Kathie Woods said that she had hoped her team would “do better” in the NWAACCs, but was still proud of her club. Woods went on to say that “any team that makes it to the NWAACCs (from the South’di vision) is good because the South division is so good.” In summarizing the 2001 sea son for the Clackamas volley ball team, Coach Woods be lieves it was a good year for the Cougars.
