Rogers Contributing Writer Imagine heat as hot as a hot summer day, only no sun. Imag ine yourself in the sweaty, dark basement of a church in the midst of hordes of people slam-dancing, pushing you, jumping crazily and head-banging, hair flying. The lead-singer takes a pause in the riveting alternative song to leap over the heads of the specta tors to be transported by hands across the mosh-pit. The loud music is spell-bind ing and the rhythm makes your head swim like you’re on drugs or worse. Your head throbs, and the sweat leaks down all over you like a broken faucet is leaking. This is Heaven. Let’s just put it this way: fun was never better described, and dancing was never so much in tensified excitement than when the mosh pit went wild over the Seattle-born alternative group, SoulFood. The concert began mellow enough with the group InchWater from Troutdale. Their lyrics were intense, with a jammin’ rockin’ guitar sound that made Live look like a joke. Featuring over 50 of the best high school bands throughout the Northwest and Canada, the festi val will take place all day Friday and Saturday, with evening per formances starting at 7:30 p.m. The festival, including several clinics and workshops, will also feature performances from CCC’s Jazz Ensemble, a 20-piece big band and the Faculty Jazz Combo. The festival is “totally full,” Wakeling said, with eight or nine bands on the waiting list. “It’s a good festival because it brings 2,000-plus students and parents to the campus in two days. So they get a chance to see the campus. Usually we get some stu dents, and they’re the better ones who want to study music,” Wakeling said. “Everything is running as it should, it promises to be a really good event,” he said. Foote is known for a few of his other screenwrites such as, “Of Mice and Men, Tender Mer cies, A Trip to Bountiful, and To Kill a Mockingbird.” “Talking Pictures” is the story of the people in Harrison, Texas going through transitions in their lives. Foote’s production, directed by David Smith-English, mixes humor, warmth, sadness, and pas sion with a variety of different characters. For this critic, opening night’s first few scenes of the play started out a little slow; but by scene three the cast seemed to be comfortable and the play was roll ing. Tuesday Rupp (Myra) and Neil Hass (Willis, Myra’s boy friend) stole the show with their excellent acting ability and talent in transposing themselves into their roles. “Talking Pictures” will be performed at 8 p.m., on March 10 and 11 and 2:30 p.m., on March 12 in the Mcloughlin Hall The atre.
