Enough said already Well, it is great that some one stepped in and made a pro ductive decision in respect to the Recreation Center. As was writ ten a couple of weeks ago,’’...the idea was uninspired and desper ate.” The Rec Center has now switched*tracks and looks like it will be at home in Randall 101. It is the perfect location, with plenty of windows, high ceilings, and above all space. Give credit to Dian Con nett for the suggestion. She has listened to a few vocal students and the outcry of this publica tion, and has actually taken this into consideration. At least we as students still have a direct voice in the administration. I consider Randall to be a much better home for the Rec reation Center. Why? Well, be lieve it or not, “recreation” is related to athletics, and billiards and ping pong are considered sports, are they not? Plus', it will be an easily accessible area for athletes to kick back and relax after a hard workout. They de serve that much, don’t they? What about the drawbacks? Well, after some field research, the Athletic department has not increased space over the years, but has been stagnantly the same since Randall was built. The ath letic department is now losing space for instruction, for sport ing events, and for other miscel laneous events. The loss of 101 for instruc tion is not that terrible. I have been in that classroom for nu merous subjects, and is it ever awful. It is cold, big, and noisy (due to the music department upstairs and the gym next door). The real loss is for those miscel laneous events. When teams come to compete at Clackamas, they must be assigned a room for halftime. Without that room, where are they going to go? Downstairs to the wornen’s locker room? Could you imagine coaches going into 101 trying to talk to their team, while they’re playing “Bad Dudes?” Actually, that’s not a bad idea.... Let’s just say that there will be drawbacks wherever the Rec Center, is placed, and someone will be unhappy. It is just a mat ter of how any area is to be; com pensated for the inconvenience of lost space. In any case, re member that no final decision has been made, yet. Personally speaking, Ran dall would be extremely conven ient and a great location for the Recreation Center. Hopefully, everyone will be content with whatever decision is mad?. The members of the team will be participating in the Takedown Tournament on Nov. 3 in Randall Gym. I heard about it first from my brother.” Is wrestling comparable to any thing else?: “Well, it’s like a street fight” What other sporLs/hobbies do you enjoy?: “I’d probably do cross country, since I do like it. The Chicago Bears are my favorite football team, but other than that, I don’t really follow any other teams. I also like hunting and fishing.” What has been your career high light?: “Placing in the top three at the Nationals.” Who is your main competition?: “It’s basically North Idaho Col lege.* by Aaron Brown Sports Editor If you ever need an army, just call Coach Jim Jackson and his wrestling team. Coach Jackson will have approximately 42 wrestlers this year, with just under ten tetum- ing. “We have the best talent overall in a while, but it is a little too early to tell,” commented Jackson. Those returning include David Grieve (Eagle Point), who red- shirted last year, and is wrestling at the 118 weight class for his first year. Matt Lindland (Gladstone) is a another returning wrestler who was one of two that competed in the NJCAA National Tournament, which took place in Bismarck, ND. Also returning is Dave Moore (West Linn), wrestling at 167 pds, and Steve Teeney, who unfortu nately missed the NJCAA tour nament last year due to injured ribs. Other returnees are David Cloud (David Douglas),Kelly Reichner (Gladstone), and Jason Baurer. Then there are the freshmen, which makes up the majority of the multitude. “We do have a lot of them [freshmen],” summed up Jackson. The long list of freshmen starts with John Mehas (Reynolds), Travis Whitaker (Molalla), Chris Lowrey (Jefferson), Eric Adams (Grant), Mark Flores (Woodbum), Brian Lemos (N. Marion), Paul Roane (Estacada), Brian Bartosch (Hudson’s), and Travis Ziegler. The list continues on. All the way from Juneau, Alaska comes Damon Schultz, and the rest of the freshmen are Tony Brown (Grant), Corey Nevins (Hudson’s Bay), Noe Meza (Central), Dean Roth (Woodbum), Shane Mel ton (Dayton), Travis Woods (Tigard), David Oliveros (Cen tral), Kurtis Bums (Molalla), Chad Westover (Centennial), Greg Benner (Barlow), Tim Stewart (Newberg), Dominic Moore (West Linn), Ryan Young (Centennial), Dan Trussell (Banks), Donald Robertson (Benson), Bruce Buel (Reynolds). John Meier (Tigard), Scott Trayhom (Reynolds), Aaron Aguirre (Aloha), Bob Brewer (David Douglas), Adam Reynolds (Glencoe), Syrell McCray (Grant), Carlton Slater (Jefferson), and Chris Monahan (Estacada) rounds out the-list. Surprisingly enough, there is very little community college competition for Jackson’s boys in the Northwest, which means they have to go all the way to Idaho for their stiffest competition, North Idaho College. The team will meet North Idaho six times throughout the schedule. The first competition for the wrestling team will be at the Nov. 3 Takedown Tournament here at Clackamas. Jim Belushi is also my favor ite actor.” If you were President of Clacka mas for a day, what improvements would you make?: “I’d try to get the team a wrestling room, and some moresupportfor our home matches since we have seven of them.” Would you like to comment on the budget difficulties?: “I think that people should cough up more money for taxes, especially the rich.” What do you think of Ballot Measure 4?: “We should shut down Trojan, no matter what."
