The Cougars prepare by Brenda Hodgen Sports Writer Linn-Benton is in town to night to face the Cougars for what should be an easy victory for Clacka mas’volleyball team after a rough week at l^it Hood. The Clackamas ladies can focus on tonight’s battle as an easy win. considering they’ve already beaten Linn-Benton once in Al bany during league play this sea son. In a sentence, Cougar Coach Kathie Woods sums it up. “I never want to say this, but I think we should sweep them.” A win tonight would lift the team’s spirits, and prepare them for another weekend of tourna ment play as they travel to Salem this weekend for the Chemeketa Cross-Over. “I’m really concerned about our tournament play,” explained Woods. “We do extremely well during league play, then we get to the tourneys and we just don’t play with the same intensity and concentration. It worries me be cause our goal is to make the play offs, but if we don’t turn around our tournament play, we won’t do what we want once we get there.” Last weekend’s Mt. Hood Classic was one of those tourna ments. Friday,-the ladies ended their pool 0-4 including defeats from Highline Community Col lege as well as Chemeketa Com-, munity College whom they de feated just one week before. Then, Saturday, they lost to Ya kima Community College but beat Clark Community College in three. Yet, they still placed fifth in their pool which “shows how poorly we played earlier in the tournament,” added Woods. They went on to defeat Centralia Community College to finish ninth in’the tournament. Last Wednesday was, on the same token, a loss to Mt. Hood 10-15,10-15,and 13-15, however, according to Woods, the ladies played an excellent match. “We played a good game even though we lost. There were a lot of long rallies and a lot of side outs, but we just couldn’t get the points to fall our way,” she ex plained. ' Tara White led the team with 10 kills and 20 digs; Debbie Asboe was there with nine blocks; and Team Captain Tisha Chevron was a key player with 13 assists and 16 digs. “We can let Mt Hood go because they’re undefeated, so no one’s getting any wins off them,” explained Woods. “We need to concentrate on the* rest of the season and our tournament play. I think we need to just look at our tourneys match by match, and take one game at a time.” for a battle against Linn-Benton this evening.
