* JB l >|, i Athletes prepare for spring sports season By Rodney Fobert and Julie Miller The Cougars are competing this year in a league which in cludes Clark, Lower Colum bia, Tacoma, and Green River Community Colleges. They will also be going up against such schools as Linfield, Western Oregon State College, Willamette University, Lewis and Clark, and Portland State University. In addition, the Cougars will be spending a week playing several matches in California to start off the season. Of the Print Spring is in the air and the spring sports, teams at Clackamas Community Col lege are preparing for a busy season. Included in the spring sports program at Clackamas is baseball, golf, mens and womens track, as well as mens and' womens tennis. The athletes involved with these sports have been practicing diligently in preparation for the upcoming competition. Hogue is a long distance runner who also competes in cross country during th© fall sports season. Also from the fall cross country team are Rob Durkee, Mark Allen and Jeff Darling, who will be run ning the long distance races for the Cougar track team. Also competing for the Cougars will be Tony Aldridge. Aldridge returns to the team after a two year break from track and field at Clackamas. Coach Monroe describes Aldridge as, “A hell of an athlete,” in the events of Javelin and the hammer throw. Monroe also looks for some good performances from freshman Chris Orblum. Orblum, from Clackamas High School, will be par ticipating in the long jump, tri ple jump and the 100 meter dash. In addition, Monroe is looking for some good finishes from the long distance run ners. Remaining athletes on this years track team include Pat Tombleson, Greg Schwartz, Troy Rutledge, Jim Bradshaw, Jim Zauner, Jeff Johnson and Robert Young. Gross, who plays catcher on the team is enthusiastic about this year. “We have a lo.t of talent and depth in the team and we are in good shape. We would like to go outside but it is still a little cold,” he said. “This year the league is gon na be tough, but we are look ing forward to good things from this group. They are very talented players,” Coach Paul Roeder said in regards to this year’s baseball team. The team, which started practicing in February, will play their first game against Yakima Valley Community College on March 23 and 24 in MEN’S TENNIS Yakima, Wash. The Cougar’s number one player will be Renato Iwersen as soon as it is determined if he is eligible to play.
