Video Tech seeks
talent and input
Without the suds of a regular television soap opera,
the video department’s “Totally Outside Productions” has
begun rehearsal for a group of “talent-search” skits en­
couraging actors to lend their talents for a bi-weekly soap
opera series.
According to Producer-director Craig Odegaarde,
“Totally Outside Productions” hopes to have a permanent
cast of at least four.
The aim behind the scripts is satirical or light com­
edy. Odegaarde stated “the writers are few, but highly
creative.”
The class is comprised mainly of new students and is
progressing quite well, related Odegaarde, a second year
video tech student. “We have to teach the students how to
use the cameras, and they need to spend time familiariz­
ing themselves with the equipment.”
This, according to Odegaarde, takes time, but it
hasn’t put them behind schedule. “We hope to have the
first of these talent-search skits completed later this
week. Then,” he explained, “we can see whether or not we
are behind.”
Odegaarde said his goals for the productions are not
unattainable. “Last year’s productions were fair, this year
they will be better.”
The soap operas may possibly be broadcasted over a
public access channel through Liberty Cable. This would
allow the productions to be viewed by not only the stu­
dent body but also the local community, Carlos Ricket-
son, video tech advisor said. But, this idea, he noted is
still in the planning stage.
Ricketson described the class format as “basic” but
provides the primary knowledge for camera operation, set
construction and audio and lighting manipulation.
Odegaarde is striving for more creative input and par­
ticipation. Stated Odegaarde, “We enjoy people watching
the shows. Good or bad publicity, we need the response.
It helps us to know what we’re doing right.”
Odegaarde said laughingly, “At present, what we
need is talent, what we have now we steal from the
