Women tracksters capture National title "It was just one heli of a meet," Rogèr Smith, head wo men's track coach said. The college women's team won the National Junior College Athletic Association Title in Champaign, III. last weekend. This is the first year of comp etition for Clackamas in the NJCAA. In the fall the women's cross country team also captured the National title. "Regina Jordon gave a superb effort and Raela Rodgers also had a fine meet. Lisa O'Dea and Rhonda Gleitz must also be credited fortheir performances," Smith said. O'Dea set a national record in the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:02.75. She was also a member of the record-setting 400 and 1600-meter relay teams. Eggleston, Young, Angella Cotton, and O' Dea joined in to make the 4:04.45 national record. In the 800-meter sprint relay Jordan, Young, Rodgers, and Eggleston took second and set a record of 1:50.8. Lisa Nickel's 1500-meter record still stands. Ronda Glietz was a surprise placer in the high jump. Pre vious to the competition Glietz had a best of 5-3 and jumped 5-4 to take third. Many of the en trants had bests of 5-8 or 5-10 coming into the meet but only two were able to beat Glietz. Jordan placed second in the 200-meters with a 26.5. She and Rodgers also took second and third in the 100-meter dash in 12.02 and 12.03. "I think our success was that we sat back in the preliminaries and then came back strong in the finals," Smith said. Photos by Doug Roberts Pagali
