January 19, 1968 THE GRANTONIAN 3 Voters' Aid General Council post sought liamentary procedure. My pre vious experience as president of the senates of Boys’ State and the David Douglas Student Con gress has trained me in effective control of parliamentary law. Next term I envision lively de bate on an Honor Code for Grant and on poll voting. I should also like to see the General Council used as a forum on current events. —James Winkler Dan Aiken What are your plans keep General Council lively and important part student government? The General Council is the voice of the student body. This voice, however, is frequently muffled by the overuse of par- Although General Council is an interesting organization, it is not an important part of student government. Liveliness is not necessarily a sign of. importance but it is an indication that peo ple are interested in the coun cil’s activities. First of all, it is important that more girls participate ac tively in Girls’ league, which can be achieved if officers em phasize the importance of the meetings. Also, an interesting change in GL would be to have some activities with the Girls’ leagues of other schools, for ex ample, skating parties, dinners, picnics, and so forth. —-Linda Breeding In the past Girls’ league has sponsored such events as the Mother-Daughter banquet and Girls’ League week. It would be a lot of fun if GL could sponsor a “Daddy-Daughter Dinner” and perhaps a TWERP (girl ask boy) dance. An idea that was started this term was Teacher Apprecia tion day. On this day all teach ers were given apples. One of the main problems with GL at present is that the same people tend to do all thé work. If elect ed, I would like to let some of the new “eager” girls help with the executive events. —Robin Suwol I believe in a more definite theme for Girls’ League week. One which the assembly, sales, Objectively and specially designated days could fit into better. A Sadie Hawkins dance could fit in well. Some things that I have done for the school that make me believe I am qualified for Stu dent Body president are: 1) president of the PIL Rally asso ciation to save the PIL, 2) junior class pfesident, 3) sophomore The office of vice-president is important and necessary because for any type of government there must be organization. The VP is responsible for calling and organizing various meetings, heading the school club program and many other activities. With out this office, organization in these functions would not prer Councils approve new amendments After passing the executive and general councils, three amendments to the school Con stitution will be voted on in the election Thursday, according to John Stuckey, student adviser. To update the Constitu tion is the purpose of one amendment. It deletes all references to Boys’ league, Service Squad or the Inter Club Council of Spirit and replaces Generalities for Pep Squad. Clarifying the definition of elective offices is the ptirpose of an amendment concerning the By-Laws.
