COAST RIVER BUSINESS JOURNAL JANUARY 2020 • 9 BUSINESS CEDR REPORT NEWS Clatsop County’s economic foundation has four pillars By KEVIN LEAHY For Coast River Business Journal H appy New Year! 2020 is here, and we are so excited about the opportunities that are before us as we continue to work together to build a vibrant economy in Clatsop County. My article this month will be covering the four “Pillars” of economic foundations in our responsibility: CEDR (Clatsop Economic Devel- opment Resources), CCC SBDC (Clatsop Community College Small Business Development Center), Clatsop WORKS Summer Paid Internship program, and last but certainly not least, Clatsop Community College, where we serve as the eyes and ears of the business community to the college, as well as managing and staff- ing the South County Center of CCC. CEDR has served as the Economic Development Organization for Clatsop County for over 12 years. Current efforts are focus- ing on Enterprise Zone opportunities, with the Fort George (Big Beams) purchase and development of the old American Can/Asto- ria Warehouse Space in Astoria on the waterfront leading the way. As of the date of this article, two of the four sponsors have approved the agreement; the City of Astoria and the Port of Astoria. Meetings with Clatsop County and the Warrenton City Commis- sion will be held later this month. This is a very exciting economic opportunity for our region! CEDR events coming up Two other very important upcoming CEDR events should be on everyone’s calendar: The annual Clatsop Job & Career Fair will be held this year in Seaside at the Seaside Civic & Convention Center.
