CITY BRIEFS Mr. and Mrs. James Racknor of Cave Junction were Saturday overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Abbott. Mrs. Racknor is em ployed as bookkeeper in the Bank of Illinois Valley at Cave Junc tion. Guests at the R. B Hill home for a buffet »upper Friday evening were Mmes. Ixiuis Koppe, Altiert Ezell, Tony Overgard, Loran Nor ton, Clare Finlayson, Leslie Pear- son, Frank McCulloch and W. C. Lindley of Eugene. The evening was spent playing bridge. Mrs. Edna Piller and Miss Della Gallo attended the Ice Follies in Portland They were accompanied to Pori land by Mrs. Joe Gallo and Wondra Gallo who visited with Mis. Gallo's daughter, Mrs. Ray Miss Dorris Arnest attend<*d the Ice Follies in Portland over the week end and visited friends then Mr. and Mrs. Walter Childs of New York state, who are touring the United States, visited here n cently with C. W. Letson, an unc^ ot Mrs. Childs and Mrs. Glen ' > Hankins, who is her cousin. The local people took the Childs and Mr. and Mrs. Purcell, who wen traveling with them, to Cottage Grove dam, and they stated it sui - passed in beauty Boulder d a in they had visited. They will have toured all but five states at the end of their trip. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Calonico and two children left T uesday for Pa cific Palisades, Calif., where Mi Calonico expects to spend some time visiting his mother and car ing for the Jerry Lewis home. Film Star Jerry and Mrs. Lewis weeks in will spend Europe. Mrs. O. C. Arnesen and daugh ter Kristen of Lincoln, Calif., vis ited the past week with her.moth er, Mrs. C. Mrs Jami's Tedford returned home Saturday night after spend ing five weeks with relatives in southern California, Portland and Salem. In Los Angeles she visited her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Goff. Also other relatives in that vicinity. She re- turned to Portland *for Mother’s Day which was spent with her on and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs, Low ell Tedford. A membership drive will be conducted in the fall and all par ents of high school students and teachers are invited to join. A coffee hour for teachers and par ents is planned for the first fall meeting. A third visitor was Jack Lively, past president of Springfield and who is running for national director at the Salem state convention this w<*ek end. Krieg will be a candidate for state president and Dakopolous for secretary-treasurer. Grove Man Faces 2 Conduct Charges A Cottage Grove man got him self into double trouble with the law here Monday night after l>e- ing involved in two conduct charges and escaping custody The man, William Bilbv was arrested with Ernie Herman about 8 p ni. at the Grove tavern on a disorderly conduct charge follow ing a fight and both were released on $25 bail. About 11 p m. police were called to the Eagles tavern where Bilhy was said to have knocked his wife unconscious. He was put in the police car while officers assisted in placing his wife in the ambu lance. He escaped and was rot found until later at his home. A Charge of escaping custody was tacked onto the conduct charges. Bilby was still in jail Wednes day morning, with bail set at $81. Mrs Bilby was released from the hospital Monday night after being given out|Mitient treatment.
