Salem. Ore., Jan. 10,—(Speolal.)—For once som e legis lators nave been well paid for at tending a legislative session. Mem bers coming from far parts of the state got mileage coming and go ing. although few returned home between sessions. A number receiv ed allowances of around $150 for mileage and $15 for the five days they served. A hundred and sixty- five dollars for a w eek s work Is not bad these days. se e Members of the taxation and revenue com m ittee sav the report that a sales tax would be collected on members who sell out is without foundation. a a a As this Is written the governor has not signed the appropriation bill for axpenaes of his special ses sion. He probably feels that he didn't get his money’s worth, but he Is personally responsible R>r getting the hoys here and the bill will have to be paid The appropriation was for $10.000. but the total probably will not be expended. The appro priation for expenses is alw ays greater than actual expenses. The balance remains In the general fund. se a Many have asked whether the governor has refused his salary, as It was stated during his campaign that he would do. The sam e per sons ask whether. If he le drawing his salary. Is he drawing It at the rate of $7.500, the salary fixed ba the legislature or whether he is drawinc the $1.500 provided by the constitution The answer is that up until August 1 he drew salary at the $7,500 rate and since that date has taken the cut he asked other officials to take. His m onthly pay check is $531.25 Many wish to know why no gu bernatorial message has been de livered to the session, although the ch ief executive is required by law to inform the session as to the con dition of the state. The governor probably is w aiting until he decides whether or not he will veto the special session bill which elim inates the property tax or expenses of state governm ent The chief execu tive Is on the spot so far as this bill is concerned «He has been an ^ARCADE THEATRE PROGRAM Saturday, January 14 Local Bad Man Hoot Gibson Jungle Mystery Serial No. 12 Matinee 2:30 P.
