6 community august2 2018 Be YOUthful Now Open in Banks Vernonia resident Nicole Hewitt has opened a new business in Banks, fo- cusing on women’s beauty. Hewitt’s business, Be YOUthful, is open inside The Salon, located at 13965 NW Main Street in Banks, where she leases a room to do treatments. Hewitt attended the Paul Mitch- ell The School Portland in downtown Portland, spending 500 hours in training to become licensed as an esthetician. Hewitt says an esthetician most- ly does skin care. She says treatments she performs include microdermabra- sion, spa facials, including a “clean teen” facial for teens suffering from acne, full body waxing, and eyelash extensions, lash lifts, and lash and brow tinting. Hewitt offers an organic microabrasion treatment, a more natural way to treat sunspots, age spots, and wrinkles. She also will start to offer a treatment called High Frequency, an old but very effec- tive treatment for teens and adults suf- fering from acne. “You have beauticians who do hair and nail technicians who do nails... I do skin,” explains Hewitt. “It’s fun taking care of other women and helping them enhance their own natural beauty. It’s fun and it’s rewarding.” She says she uses Dermalogica skin care products. “It’s a great prod- uct line,” says Hewitt. “I did a lot of re- search and I’ve been using it myself for the last four years and have seen a big difference in my skin.” Hewitt and her husband Chad own Rainbow River Lodge, a five-star fishing lodge in Southeast Alaska. The business has expanded to include an air taxi service and a second lodge, Il- iamna River Lodge. A third lodge is be- ing built this summer. Nicole usually spends her summers there, but thought it might be time for her to do something else. “This is my first summer in Ore- gon in 15 years,” says Hewitt. “Up there, we’re completely in the bush of Alaska – there’s no roads and it’s float plane ac- cess only. I always wanted to have a big garden, so I’m doing that and a lot of canning, and now I have a business.” Hewitt was born and raised in Hillsboro and was working in the hunt- ing and fishing department at G.I. Joe’s when she met Chad. “I sold him a shot- gun, and then he kept coming back in,” says Hewitt. “Our first date was fishing, and here we are.” The Hewitts moved to Verno- nia in 2003 and built a home on Keasey Road four years ago. Hewitt says she got inspired to go to beauty school following an all girls trip to Mexico. “Down there you don’t wear a lot of make-up because you’re on the beach a lot,” says Hewitt. “I heard about eyelash extensions down there and tried them out and thought, ‘I want to learn to do this, because every girl needs lashes,’ I didn’t even know what an esthetician was, but I looked into it and thought it sounded fun.” At The Salon, Hewitt says there are three nail technicians, two hairdress- ers, and her esthetician service. One of the nail techs is Vernonia resident Sarah Ferrier, who used to do her service in Vernonia. “I’m running a lot of specials at my business since I’m new and I wanted to draw people in,” says Hewitt. “I’ve been pretty busy so far.” To schedule an appointment with Nicole Hewitt at Be YOUthful, call (503) 222- 7687. Belle is a member of Rose Valley 4-H Club where she has shown both An- gus beef and Jersey dairy cattle and won Champion and Reserve Champion. Her fa- vorite dairy breed is Brown Swiss, which she plans to show, along with a Holstein, for 4-H this summer. There’s a new Dairy Princess in Belle Erhardt was crowned 2018- 2019 Columbia County Dairy Princess Am- bassador on May 6, 2018 at a fun western themed coronation. The next few months, she will travel throughout the County and Oregon educating the public about the health benefits of dairy products, dairy farming, and the dairy industry. In January 2019, she will represent Columbia County at the Oregon Dairy Princess Ambassador contest in Salem, Oregon. Belle is the daughter of Dave and Jenny Erhardt of Scappoose, Oregon.
