Readers Lend Their Voices... To the Editor, I would like to thank Ver- nonia city employee and resident James McMahon for the work he has put into Airport Park, espe- cially this year. He is currently the resident host, and has put in hun- dreds of hours to clean up and im- prove the park. It looks better than ever! However, use of the park seems to be dwindling. Last sum- mer, most days saw few visitors. When I talk to other area residents, I hear stories about Air- port Park from years past. Group camps, crawdad catching, fish- ing, looking for agates, etc. With a great swimming hole, a golf course nearby, and the ability to watch small planes take off and land – a day of family fun is easy to find at the park! Camp over- night and enjoy a getaway that feels a lot further away than a few miles from town. I encourage all Verno- nians to check out Airport Park this year. The day-use fee ($5) is waived for city residents with a city sticker (available at City Hall). The camping fees help support our great network of parks, which few towns our size can boast having. If we see even a few more campers each week this summer, we will increase the revenue stream for our parks in a meaningful way. Let’s support a local gem…Airport Park. VEF Wants You to be Heard! Vernonia Education Foundation is hosting a special event to hear input on what extra programming our students of Vernonia need and deserve.
